Not a big fan of the constant hyping on Facebook and instagram and twitter, especially when your bottle limit is 1.

Why aren't prices listed on the bottle? The guy at the register didn't want to do a price check, he just told me it was a really good deal-Not

Finally made it to this off the beaten track spot in Long Beach. Decent place that basically looks like your run of the mill liquor store. It seems to have a decent stock but one can easily be fooled in that what appears to be large stock is really multiple rows and/or displays of the same bottle, be it beer or spirits. Still, decent stock.

This is likely a wonderful local shop for Long Beach but has certainly not kept up with the variety selection of the major shops of Southern California such that I suspect most of the very high ratings would be lower in today's world where several stores in Southern California far exceed selection.

Nice staff and worth a trip if in the area. I saw nothing that could not be obtained in dozens of other places around the general Southern California/Los Angeles area. By today's standards with the growing beer craze, this store is very good, at best, it is not world class. Conclusion: not worth a long drive or going out of your way.

Stearns is my go to spot. I've been frequenting it for around 5 years now and have gotten to know the owner (Danny) and the rest of the employees fairly well. Someone is usually calling out my name and pointing out something special as I walk in the door. the place is well stocked, laid out nicely and has a great vibe. All the hoppy beers are in the coolers like others have stated. Stouts and the like on the shelves right near a small glassware section that is always worth a look. The prices are very competitive and if you can manage to slow Danny down for a few minutes he's always good for geeking out on some beer talk. Also as others have stated they post most special arrivals on social media so follow them if you want to land those Whalez!

Great place, friendly service and a gem of a store. The person working this past Saturday when I visited was very attentive and helpful. The store had a great selection of crafts and I found numerous beers that I had been looking for in other stores in L.A. but could not find.. The better part of their beer selection is kept in their cooler, which is something I appreciate. Prices are in line with other stores in the Los Angeles area.

The store is somewhat off the beaten path but not hard to find. I had always heard good things about Stearn's but somehow never made over there. Even though this store is a bit out of the way for me I will find a way to visit there regularly. I don't mind going out of my way for good selection, friendly service and cold beers.

Long Beach Beer Buying Destination #1. Don't go anywhere else for beer when you're in the LBC. The have what everyone else has, and what everyone else DOESN'T have. Whether you're looking for a new release, and old favorite, or a foreign delight, Stearns Liquor has it. If you're new to craft beer, or a seasoned veteran, this is your spot. Follow them on FB and IG and join the masses that file in for Pliny and others. Danny is the curator of this wonderful world of beer, and continues to look for new and exciting beers to add to his amazing inventory. Prices are in line and sometimes cheaper than other stores in the area, and the customer service is always top notch, as Danny and the other employees know as much about beer as anyone, and enjoy beer as much as any customer. That's the way it should be.

I visited Stearns Liquor after playing a round at El Dorado since it was fairly close to the course and heard great things about this place.

They had beers both in coolers and shelves. There were some singles that they allowed a mix-and-match 6-pack. Overall, I think the selection here was very nice. I found some European beers that I rarely see. My visit didn't coincide with any special releases from any breweries, so, as expected, I didn't see any rarities. The prices were not the lowest, but I thought they were fair.

I believe they annouce their beer arrivals on social media, so folks can stop by when something fancies their interest comes in. If I lived closer, I'd definitely make Stearns one of my regular stops.

I bought a bottle of Saison-Brett and left satisfied I made the effort to visit this store. Since I golf Long Beach courses periodically, I'm sure I'll be back.

Ive been A BA member for years, and a Craft beer Drinker for much longer than that. And very few stores have ever reached the bar that I put on those merchants that are responsible for the care and handling of our much desired carbonated nectar. For far to long and far to often I've walked into these merchants that don't know or don't care about the product they sell. Its come to a place in the evolution of the Craft beer revolution that we have proprietors of Supermarket liquor-stores and even Bars that don't properly care for the beer. Not just this but the Money they're asking is rediculas. On some of the beer they're asking so much for you expect them to bring out Loan Papers or ask for your first born. All this because they want to jump on the Craft Beer Ban wagon.

I will not longer get Craft beer from a Supermarket, Or a Super Beverage store. i.e. Bevmo, Total Wine. Shopping at the Superstores go against EVERYTHING that the Craft Beer revolution stands for. Nor will I get my craft Beer from that Cheesy little Liquor store that tell me they have a Craft beer section and show me a door with Stone.

I will make the trip to a Proper Beer store that Care for the Beer and care for those who buy it.
That being said Id like to thank Stearn's Liquor for providing us with that place. They care for the Beer and the customers. . Prices are fair if not Low. And their selection will make you Drool in the Isles.
Thank you Stearns

Located on Stearns, right off Bellflower, next to The Annex.

The atmosphere is that of a fairly spacious liquor store, with spirits (quite a few gift boxes with collectible glasses), wine, snacks, non-alcoholic drinks, macro brews, and the craft beer area, with a little glassware area. Steady stream of locals and a few commuters.
As stated before, some of the beers are on shelves and some are in coolers opposite those shelves. Some bigger (mainstream) micros, cases, and cans are in the back coolers.

I have received excellent service from Danny (the owner) and Aaron. After just one visit, each of them remembered what type of beer I like, pointed out new items, and gave good beer talk. Danny tends to be busy (working to get good stock, so I get that!). He posts popular/rare beer on their Facebook page as soon as it comes in, which makes sense to me. It's fair game to whoever gets there first. Things do sell out.

Pricing is on par with just about every other liquor store that has good craft beer selection. I think the value is awesome especially for selection, service, and high percentage & collectible bottles and rarities.

PS: All the beer I have bought there has a price tag on it. In fact, that's how I can tell where it came from, since other local stores I visit do not mark their bottles.

Have stopped by Stearns a couple of times in a couple trips to Long Beach. Am happy to say I will get to frequent this place very soon.

Pretty mid sized store. Beer storage area is extremely good. All hoppy beers are refrigerated, while bigger, maltier beers are on shelves. As far as selection goes: Lots of great local IPAs, as well as imports (last trip I picked up a 3F Oude Gueze as well as a bottle of 3F Golden Blend). I could go on, but suffice it to say they have a very expansive selection that covers just about every style you could want. Did not hear much from the store employees, so do not have much to report on that front. Overall, a good store that I will be visiting frequently.

I stopped here for some shopping during a week-long trip to LA. During that time I had the chance to check out a LOT of shops from Long Beach to Pasadena, Hermosa to Glendora. So within that one week timeframe I feel I can give a good comparative analysis.

Prices were on par with most other shops. 95% of the selection was the same too. There were some noticeable bottles missing here which I saw in quite a few other places:
Seizon Bretta
Several HOTD bottles

I chalk that up to the high regard this shop has in the community, as people make it a point to stop here and likely buy all the very special stuff.

On the other hand there were a lot of European bottles which I didn't see in too many other places. So overall it's worth a stop regardless of the loss of some of the hottest brews.

Well... I've been frequenting Stearns for about 5 years now and don't normally do reviews. I felt this was well deserved.

Great selection, knowlegable staff (Danny's awesome. Ask for him), competitive pricing, clean store. All IPAs kept cold in the cooler, as they should be. Stouts, Barleywines, etc. line the shelves at room temp. Also has an expansive selection of Ciders and Mead if that's your cup of brew, I mean tea. Plenty of parking as well.

Not sure what the below reviewer is griping about. Danny has bent over backwards to get anything that I've been looking for and has become a great friend over the years. I don't see how that's a crime. He has never held anything for me that another customer has asked for before I arrived. It has always been first come first served since my first visit. I feel extremely lucky that this shop is a 15 minute drive and I have plenty of options closer by.

This place is a great hidden gem of a liquor store in Long Beach. This is the go to place to find all great craft beers. The biggest selection of beer in town. Staff is very friendly and will assist you in finding the right kind of beer for you. I love supporting local places so I will shop here, even if BevMo has a couple things cheaper every now and again. Great selection of liquor as well.

Great selection and knowledgeable staff. They treat their regulars well!
There are several coolers on the back wall filled with a huge selection of craft beer. All their IPAs are in the coolers. Stouts are on the shelf at room temp. There is the ability to build your own 6 pack, although the selection of beers for this is limited.

Prices for the most part are reasonable, although, I've seen a couple of beers that are significantly cheaper at BevMo. I'd much rather come here and support a small local business than BevMo though.

This store is amazing, the owner really knows his beer and is a beer geek himself. He makes great recommendations. The atmosphere was great, I was practically dancing to the music and the beer geek talk is flowing all the time. The selection is great and you will never leave the store disappointed. I used to go to hi-time, but find the selection here as good or better. If you are within a few hours of the store it is worth a visit. To the previous reviewer, try taking a piss at the in-n-out down the street, it's a bottle shop not a restaurant.

Decided to do a little driving while in the area for the Beachwood Sour Fest. Hit up this place, just a normal exterior liquor store in not so beautiful Long Beach.

Bright store, cute tall skinny girl behind the counter. Nobody else inside. Stone display. Usual beers, picked up some Stone Cherry Chocolate Stouts, some Telegraph cork & caged stuff. Nothing else really piqued my interest, I had picked up a lot of their good stuff elsewhere already on my trip.

So I bring $30+ worth of beer to the register, pay for it. Really needed to use the bathroom, so I asked to use it before I left. "I'm sorry, restrooms not available for the public." I'm not the 'public' I'm a customer. No dice.

Decent place, shitty service. Use the restroom before you go.

Another addition to the chorus of praise for Stearn's, but it really is as good as everyone is saying. They have a great selection and will try to get something if you do not find it. They get plenty of the hard to find releases but have strict limits to allow everyone to get some (something I applaud). And Danny is always there to steer you in the right direction. He is a beer geek just like the rest of us so he has usually tried everything he has and can make good recommendations. You can always call him and he will always let you know if they have something or not. He is active on BA as well and sometimes posts stock alerts here.

Located right off Lakewood Blvd, it is very accessible and parking is a breeze. This is definitely a place worth seeking out and going a little bit out of your way for.

I just want to add to the praise of Stearns Liquor Mart by saying that the place is run by the nicest guy I've ever met in a beer store. He secured me one of this Parabolas (1 bottle limit, reasonable and respectable) and was very helpful in pointing me into the right direction of beers that I might otherwise have been missing. I grabbed a supplication, Hair of the Dog Blue Dot DIPA (his recommendation), and I had to restrain myself from buying his available Alpine beers due to diminishing cooler space. The whole time that I was there he talked so enthusiastically about beer; and you can tell he is totally sincere with everything he says. He never tried to sell me on anything, and wasn't pretentious at all about his beer knowledge. I also should mention that I hated the idea of swooping in, grabbing a parabola, and leaving. I mentioned to the owner that I would most certainly browse the store before I departed, but he reassured me it wasn't necessary to get anything but the parabola. Obviously I ended up buying more, but not because I felt obligated to. I bought more because I was intrigued by Danny's (I think it was Danny) recommendations, and because his charisma made for an expectadlly pleasant stop. All of these factors help make my Stearns Liquor experience more than just a beer run; which is in direct contrast with my other LA store experiences (not naming names). I called and stopped in to about 8 stores before securing the parabola, and my wife was reaching a boiling point with me. After the stop at Stearns all we did was talk happily about the experience all the way home. Thanks Stearns!

I was first introduced to this place by a friend of mine who used this site to find a new place to buy beer. Upon my first visit i immediately fell in love with the place. The best part is that they do sell pricey beers, but there is no mark up. I am happy i can find some hard to come by beers and not get stuck paying a few extra bucks. Downer is sometimes they are gone by the time i get the chance to stop by, but thats okay.

I definitely enjoy stopping by grabbing a few bottles and talking shop with the fellas there. If you stop by and get to meet Danny, its worth your time to take a few minutes to either let him help you find a new beer to try or the very least pick his brain about some beers.

I look forward to what lays ahead for stearns with Danny running it. He has some great ideas and has some great beers to be released throughout that future, and it makes me wish i lived close to the store.

Made my first trip down to Stearns Liquor today and was extremely impressed. I called ahead to see if they had any Abacus left, as I had heard they had gotten quite an allotment, and was told they had sold out. I told them I would come down anyways because I had heard good things. When I got there, Danny, the owner, was waiting for me with an Abacus that he had scared up. The rest of the selection was exceptional as well-Alpine, RR, Drakes, Port, Lost Abbey, Bruery etc. were all well-stocked. Plenty of good sours and stouts. Everything was refrigerated except for a few big stouts which were shelved right next to the beer fridges. Danny was more than happy to stand there and talk beer with me for a few minutes, and made some great recommendations. I look forward to hitting Stearns Liquor again sometime soon.

Stearns liquor near the 405 and lakewood blvd. they have a really nice selection to choose from all the time. always have good examples of the more popular styles on here such as imperial stouts, sours, barrel aged beers. the guy that owns the place always seems really stoked and has a good attitude about his place and his customers. he also gets some of the harder to find beers at times such as pliny the elder, alpine ipa's, and the limited release firestone walker beers, i was able to get 3 bottles of Abacus from stearns liquor.

Visited Stearns Liquor for the first time yesterday. A very nice and organized liquor store/mini-mart. Has a more upscale feel than other places in the LB area. Beer coolers fill up 2 walls in the place. They have a large selection of BMC but an exceptional selection of craft beer from the US and abroad. Everything was fresh and within the dates. All beer that should be in the coolers (IPAs, etc.) was in there, with the stouts and porters out on the shelf. Some rare and harder to find offerings from US and foreign breweries. Cashier was very friendly and helpful. Highly recommended stop in the LB area.

Decided to check this place out after reading the BA reviews. Fairly unassuming from the outside...just looks like your average liquor store. But then you walk in, and right in front of along the wall is an absolutely amazing craft beer selection. While there I picked up Drie Fonteinen, RR Consecration, Rochefort 10 and 1809 Berliner Weisse.

Another reviewer said this is the place if you're an IPA or sour fan, and I have to agree. All of the standards were there along with some pretty surprising finds. They had all the current RR beers in stock.

Prices were a bit on the upper end, but nothing too outrageous. You get what you pay for. And 10 minutes from CSULB? I'm sold. Great place

I've got to take a couple seconds to review Stearn's Liquor. Thanks to my good friend Derrick, I've become quite interested in the craft brew scene. Sorry Coors Light...we had some good times.

This is quite possibly the best hidden jem in Long Beach. One of the co-owners named Danny knows his beer. He's stocking one of the best selections of hard to find brews that I've ever come across. Many beers here you can't find at BevMo. He also posts Beer Advocate ratings for some of his best beers. It keeps you from guessing whether a $10 bottle of beer is going to be a drain pour or not. If the store isn't busy, he takes the time to stand there and chat about his favorites and the different styles. It's nice to see someone who has some knowledge rather than just pointing you to an expensive random bottle.

Store is clean and well taken care of. You can tell they put some effort into this place when they took over. Good to see.

Two thumbs up to Stearns Liquor. My business will continue.

I've been living in Long Beach going on five years now and I'm gonna say, best beer selection in the city, bar none. Especilly if you are an IPA lover or a sour afficanado. My only complaint is that I didn't find this place sooner.

The owner, Danny, stocks all the best stuff, and keeps it stored appropriately (IPAs in the fridge, stouts on the shelf, etc.) and is extremely knowledgable about the industry, always on top of new and rare releases.

I love it when a fellow beer geek owns his own store.

Solid beer store, conveniently located a few blocks off PCH, on Stearns Ave. Parking is great, you pull up curbside to the store, and if it's full, ample parking on the opposite side. Nice first impression, clean store, not cluttered, despite having something for everyone (from bud light to supplication), with about 12 coolers dedicated to ONLY craft beer. Danny is knowledgable about his beers, and can quickly become your "go-to" beer guy, when you're looking for a rarity , latest release, or just want to engage in some beer geek talk. Bottles are reasonably priced, and always well stocked. You should definitely check this place out if you're around, worth the stop.
