My wife and I stumbled into this small Alehouse during a recent stay in Bar Harbor. Great little joint. They featured local beers from mostly Maine, but all over New England on tap. They of course had Bar Harbor and Atlantic Brewing included with those. Atmosphere was nice, it was small but clean with an old New England pub feel to it. Service was OK, no complaints there. Food was great, my wife ordered a salad for herself and the portion she was given was enough for four people. The menu wasn't overwhelming and had just enough of a selection. We also had gone during the 4th of July Holiday week, and the crowd was small. Glad we stopped in there, highly recommend this place. I will cetainly go again.

For being in the middle of the very touristy downtown Bar Harbor, Finback Alehouse does a pretty good job. Came here for three reasons: first, it was a very close blockish walk from the dock for the lighthouse boat tour; second, it had Black Bear Microbrewery and no one else seemed to carry them; and third, the multiple mac and cheese offering fit well with our vegetarian choices in a seafood rich area.

Because of extremely dense fog, we extended our stay in Bar Harbor by a full day--and consequently returned for the second shot at the mac n cheese. No website, so I can't look up what we exactly had, but both versions of the baked comfort food were great and one order is fine to share for lunch. I think it was gouda and brie in the first one was good, but we took out the bacon for a pepperjack version on the second and liked it a bit better, both with bowtie pasta.

Over both visits, I tried all three Black Bear offerings--and all were adequate, middle of the road beers that won't scare the touristy types coming in there. Ended with a Long Trail Double Bag, confirming that while I think I should like this beer, it's only ok. All were well served, fresh and fast.

At lunch, the small, sunlight bar was quiet with music in the background. First day, 70s hits on the cable played with two guys in charge. Second day, two young ladies were running the bar and the music seemed like a designed iPod mixed that was well chosen and pleasant, including Rufus Wainwright and the like. Very nice.

Good pub with very good food without having to walk farther away from the wharf. The mac n cheese was as much of a draw as the beer, but all was good.

We always stop by this tavern when in Bar Harbor and last night was our first visit this year. Finback Alehouse is a new (2 year old) name for an old tavern in downtown Bar Harbor that was called Bubba's. When Bubba's opened the owner had spend months with the wood workers on the island making a most spectacular bar, bar back, cooler tops and ceiling over the bar. Finback's has preserved all of this beautiful woodwork and this alone is a great reason to stop by Finback Alehouse when in Bar Harbor.

Finback Alehouse has 16 taps now and features 4 taps dedicated to beers of the Black Bear Brewery from Orono, Maine. Several other taps also feature beers from Maine and the New England region including Geary's, Gritty's and Shipyard. Most of the bottle selection is from the major breweries but Dogfish Head 60 Minute is also available. I had the Pirate Bear IPA which was not as hoppy as some American IPA's but was certainly satisfying. Esther tried the Gritty's Red Claw which was a bit under flavored but would go well with most seafood.

Finback Alehouse serves a full menu of pub grub and regular Downeast Maine dinner items. Probably our favorite is the Lamb "Lollypops" which are especially prepared lamb chops.

Whenever you are pub crawling in Bar Harbor, Finback Alehouse is certainly worth a visit.
