I visted Greenshields to have dinner with friends. I thought the atmosphere was good but nothing very exceptional.

I tried their beers at the bar while waiting for my friends to show up. I found the beers to be "ok" but nothing that would prompt me to go out of my way for.

I enjoyed the food, especially their beer soup. The service was very attentive and friendly.

I thought the experience was good but nothing that stands out to me. I would recommend this place as a casual dinner with friends.

Greenshields was the first pub I visited in Raleigh. When I entered the establishment, I noticed an interesting combination of Southern living (meaning the dining room resembled an antebellum room) and a college scene. One can have a nice, relaxing dinner in the dining room, or get rowdy as Duke beats UNC in a college bball game. The food is really good. I highly recommend the Bangers and Mash dish.

For the selection of beers, I have been disappointed lately. When I first hit the place, they had all five brews available. The last time I went, they only had the IPA, Amber, and Pilsner available. I also noticed a difference in the service. Greenshields used to have very friendly and excellent waiters and waitresses. I can't not say the same for the service I have received the past two times. It's saving grace remains the food.

Greenshield has been around for quite some time. It is the first place I even had a stout.

I stopped in for a birthday party and our service was good, but the beer was lacking. It had quite a bit of diacetyl in both the stout and the nut brown (I did not rate for the reviews however). I would not go out of my way to go to Greenshields since the food and the beer are running about average nowadays. I did not hear any complaints about the food nor the beer, but no one was very excited either.

The area they put our group in had a decent albeit slightly noisy atmosphere. Our server did a good job for the large group we had and only missed a step on a beer or two.

I thought Greenshields was going to step up to the plate since they have been through quite a few brewers as of late, but apparently they are just going to let things ride. The green food coloring in the Pilsner really looked awful...

I’ve been to Greenshields a lot, it’s in the marketplace area of downtown Raleigh. They have tables outside with a covered awning looking at eclectic shops across the cobblestone road. Inside you have a couple dining areas one fancier room in the front, and another room filled with tables looking at the brewing area through glass. They also have the bar area which has a few mixed tables, a couch and some chairs by a fire place. It’s a pretty mixed crowed in the dining area’s generally younger in the bar.

Food is good pub food, selections such as beer cheese soup and pub fries to finer fair. My friends loved the Scottish eggs when we went. Out of the 10 or so times we went service was only bad once, the server could have had an off night. Other times they are very accommodating and friendly. They know a good amount about the beer and explain the samplers well.

They have on average about 5 beers, and offered samplers. They serve pints and half pints as well. You can get everything from kegs to bottles to go, and find some bottles in local stores. There beer is pretty average, straight forward. I like their Nut Brown Ale and Stout, which are very drinkable. This place has a lot of familiarity for me, so that might influence my score, but it’s a good place to grab a meal and a sampler.

Just an update I took some people the other day again, and all the beers were very sub par, very watery and tasteless. They may be changing for the worst.
