enjoyed this at the MI winter beer fest in GR. thought strong vanilla presence and just right amount of bourbon smell/taste, very good offering can't wait to have it again.

Silky black pour with a towering beige head of 3 fingers.

Aroma of sour barrel, some vanilla, brown bread crust dipped in vinegar, light bourbon.

The flavor is thin and consists of oatmeal, roast malts, barley, liquid creamer, decaf coffee, and discarded maple syrup. Yep.

Feel is so pathetic for a stout I don't even know where to start. It's so watery it's a shame. Undercarbonated, no character to speak of really besides the bourbon burn at the very back.

I hate to say it, this is utterly a drain pour. If I'm gonna drink a stout, it's gotta have character which this beer is sorely lacking. Add on the fact that this was supposedly barrel aged to ADD character makes me fear the worst for the original.

16 ounce can into tulip glass, best before 5/2/2017. Listed as 6.5% on the can. Pours opaque dark brown/black color with a 1-2 finger fairly dense khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Light spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass. Aromas of milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, vanilla, bourbon, coconut, oak, toffee, toasted dark bread, light smoke/dark fruits, and roast/oak/toasted earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance and complexity of roast/bready malt, cocoa/lactose, and bourbon barrel notes; with decent strength. Taste of big milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, vanilla, bourbon, coconut, oak, toffee, toasted dark bread, light smoke/dark fruits, and roast/oak/toasted earthiness. Light roasted bitterness and bourbon/oak spiciness on the finish; with lingering notes of milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, vanilla, bourbon, coconut, oak, toffee, toasted dark bread, light smoke, and roast/oak/toasted earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Very nice complexity, robustness, and balance of roast/bready malt, cocoa/lactose, and bourbon barrel flavors; with a great roasted bitter/sweet balance, and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Slight dryness from roast bitterness and bourbon/oak spiciness as well. Light-medium carbonation and medium body; with a very smooth, moderately creamy/bready, lightly sticky/chalky, and slightly silky/tannic balanced mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is fairly well hidden; a light warmth lingering after the finish, but no barrel booziness. Overall this is a very good barrel aged milk stout. All around good complexity, robustness, and balance of roast/bready malt, cocoa/lactose, and bourbon barrel flavors; very smooth and easy to drink. Was expecting a bit more out of this, but it is definitely a nice improvement over the base beer. A lot of really nice flavors, and a better mouthfeel. A very enjoyable offering.
