Clear amber with a tall, loose head. Sweet caramel malt nose. Light-medium malt body, fairly sweet and mild. Light crisp fare but a surprising 6.25% ABV and 21 IBU.

Pours a dark amber with a khaki colored head that is more dense than the other two Oktoberfest beers I've had today with less lacing. Noticeably cloudy. Nose is relatively weak malts and is fairly unremarkable in general. Taste is fairly bitter and seems to be missing some of the bready / toasty aspects I often associate with the style. Feel isn't as smooth as I would have expected. All things considered, this is still a good beer that is very easy to drink, but relative to some other Marzen style beers out there, it's half a step behind.

Welcome to the opening salvo in New Beer(s) from @jkblr Sunday (Week 776), MKII, Part 1! He is my only current shipping trader with @tone77 as a local, in-person trader & he was CANcerned that perhaps I was giving his beers short shrift. Perish the thought! I was saving them for an NBS, but then other NBSs spiraled outta CANtrol & I kept pushing his to the back burner. I beCAN last week with an Oktoberfest & I am doing so aCAN this week.

From the CAN: "Prost!"; "Celebration Lager"; "German-Style Lager"; "Oktoberfest/Märzen[:] A German-Style Lager with low to moderate hop bitterness featuring a medium body and brilliant orangeish amber color. Rich yet easy drinking."; "Featured Hops[:] Magnum, Hallertau"; "Blended Malts[:] Munich, Vienna, Pilsner, Crystal"; "IBUs: 21".

I chose my favorite 0.5-L glass stein, which is a CANtradiction in terms since "stein" means "stone" in German, but no matter. I bought it at my neighborhood church's monthly Attic Treasures rummage sale & it really fits my purposes. I then Crack!ed open the vent & beCAN a slow, gentle C-Line Glug. I was fascinated by how quickly it foamed up to form two-plus fingers of dense, foamy, rocky, tawny head with excellent retention. Color was Deep-Amber/Light-Copper to Copper (SRM = > 13, < 17) with NE-quality clarity, the shade of an old flame's hair! Nose was softly malty-sweet & I was thankful. I have had some in the style that were utter sugar bombs from the nose onward. The nose here seemed to indicate a modicum of restraint on the brewers' part. Mouthfeel was medium, but very soft in the mouth & on the tongue, reminiscent of Carl Sandburg's poem, "Fog", in which "The fog (beer) comes on little cat feet." The taste was near-perfect, IMHO. Yes, it was malt-driven, but the sweetness was held in check to allow for a grassy hoppiness to also shine through. Toasty, bready with a light grassiness - that's my kinda Oktoberfest! Finish was semi-sweet, although a case CAN be made for semi-dry, I suppose. Of the two that @jkblr sent, I dug this one the most. YMMV.

Pours a translucent copper color with a foamy tan head, this gorgeous Marzen-style lager has subtle grassy and bready aromas and not-so-subtle caramel aromas on the nose, and a veritable caramel wallop on the taste that is balanced nicely by the noble hop flavors, the aforementioned breads and grasses.

This is far and away my favorite beer from Rochester Mills. Exceptionally well done, IMHO.

I live close to this Brewery and therefore this beer is very easy to find. It is consistent every year and is one of my favorite go to Oktoberfest every year. Plus it comes in pint cans, like most canned beers should! Beautiful copper color, smells like bread and malt, well balanced malt taste and a hint of hops, and appropriate mouth feel for the style. I am an Oktoberfest snob and this is always one of my favorites of the year.

16oz can stamped 917-918 01/31/20 BEERCOS.COM poured into a krug at fridge temp 6.25% ABV 21 IBU per label. The beer pours bright copper amber in color with khaki head. The head recedes to a thin cap and leaves a little lacing. The aroma is toasted bread with a hint of caramel sweetness and a little noble hop. The taste is rich, bready malt with a bit of sweetness before a drying, earthy mildly bitter finish. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with just less than medium carbonation. Overall, excellent. Not cheap at $3/16oz can, but literally right up my alley.

Quite a nice Marzen in my opinion, one of the best American versions I've had. Rich and balanced flavor.
