I recommended this one for my father, who is not into hoppy beers or anything too extreme. It was a dark brown, clear beer with a thin ring of head around the glass. No lacing was evident.

Aroma was of dark malt, with a slight roasted character. No hops noticeable. Somewhat more subdued than a porter.

Taste was slightly sweet dark malt, with a light roasted flavor. Overall, quite light.

Mouthfeel was nice and smooth, not heavy in any way.

Great drinkability on this one. It was a light bodied dark beer that wasn't in your face with mega-roasted flavors, and he enjoyed it quite a bit. This would be a good session beer.

A light creamy head over black beer with slight hints of light around the corners.

Nose has light black malts, mostly black patent I think, slightest hint of roast and caramel.

Taste has more of the black malts, slightest hint of smoke I think, and some roasted malts but no earthy dark malt bite, bit of caramel as well. All this blends well with a nice light lager like flavor in the background giving a light crisp but touch of lager fruit flavor.

Mouth is med to slightly lighter bodied, decent carb.

Overall pretty nice, does what it promises with nice dark malts and lager flavors as well, no big roasty bite and no overpowering chocolate or hops, doesn't try to "Americanize" this beer which is nice.

Pours an obvious dark, very dark brown to black color with a thin white head.

Smell is toasted dark bread, caramel, a bit of coffee and lots of dark malty goodness.

Tastes a lot like it smells, lots of dark toasted bready, roasted coffee, brown sugar and malts galore.

Very smooth and easy drinking. Great job with this one Donald! I look forward to drinking quite a few more before the barrel is done.
