This one pours a slightly murky dark orange color, with a small head, and a little bit of lacing.

This smells like red berry, clove, caramelized sugar, oxidation, and citrus.

I think this is just too old, as it feels like oxidation is slowly eating away at what was once a good beer. I don’t think the beer is even that old, so that’s disappointing. It’s overly sweet, and maybe a little bit syrupy. It just feels too heavy for a saison, with like a fruity brandy like taste, cereal grain, caramel, and overripe berries.

This is too thick, and not all that drinkable.

I did not really enjoy this one – it didn’t really work for me.

Look: It pours amber with a bit of clouding. It has a white head with average head retention.

Smell: There are some sour aromas with grapes and caramel. There are some toasted elements with very light spice.

Taste: It has some caramel flavors with grapes and noticeable alcohol and some sourness. There are light cherry notes with a bit of vinous qualities.

Feel: It has a medium body with strong alcohol warming.

Overall, it's a bit odd in the fact that it really doesn't fit with a standard saison of a dark saison, but straddles the middle in color with very different flavors. With that said, there are good flavors with a good finish, but a little much with the alcohol for my palate.

My rating is way off from the other ratings. Several of the ratings are over 4 years old and the beer here is listed as a Belgian Strong Pale Ale while on the brewer's website lists it as a Winter Saison. Over the past 4 to 6 years th brewer may have changed or improved the recipe or may have found a better importer or distributor that treats the beer better and gets a fresher product to the retailer.

L: hazy tea colored amber permeated by streams of rapidly rising bubbles under a 1" pure white cap with good retention

S: Belgian yeast dominates the aromas bringing fruit, peach, spice and bubble gum

T: Well developed fruit flavors feature pineapple, citrus, melon and stone fruit accented by mild alcohol. The beer starts semi-dry and dries out on the finish with an assertive fruit and citrus rind bitterness that balances the fruit and alcohol.

F: Medium light body and high carbonation

O: The brewer has harnessed the Belgian yeast very well pulling out a lot of interesting fruit flavors and balancing them well with the alcohol and the hop bitterness

33cl brown bottle purchased from Domus Birrae in Rome.

Pours a very hazed golden colour, with some orange at the deeper parts. Head forms as a slushy white crest, but settles out to a pocked film across the top. Lace forms in places, but is pretty inconsistent. Looks a bit flat—I hope better things are coming up.

Nose is indeed better, with a nice mix of earthy grains and pronounced Belgian ester characters. Solid rounded sweetness, not a lot of spice, but some boozy characters from the surprisingly high ABV. It's pretty solid.

Taste is also good. Clean and forthright on the front, with a touch of spice that comes in on the mid-palate, giving a touch of cloves and some crushed watermelon. Malt is light, but structured, giving body and basis to the beer right through to the back. Finish is a bit light, but given how high in alcohol it is, that's quite something. Mouthfeel is soft, but with a click at the back which gives it a pleasant sendoff.

Overall, this is actually pretty good. It doesn't have the complexity of the best Belgian examples, but the Belgian genesis is apparent, and the beer is pretty well-made. The 9.5% ABV is well-hidden, which really aids the drinkability—more depth and character would make it exceptional.

Opened with a geyser of foam, then poured with a massive head.
Nose shows heavy spicy phenols, Belgian doughy yeast notes, soft light malt and very faint pear.
Flavours include sharp, solvent-like booze, doughy yeast and light sweet malt.
Excessively carbonated and too much booze.

Bottle from Beer Deluxe.

A - Pours a hazy dark gold with lot's of suspended sediment. Three finger fluffy white head. Good carbonation. Good splattering of lace and a finger of retention.

S - Yeast. That's it. Maybe some orange.

T - A bit fruity with some orange. Booze. Yeast. Not a whole lot worth noting aside from the orange esters.

M - Strong carbonation, medium body and a dry finish with some booze.

O/D - This beer was pretty uninteresting. Basic for the style and no real outstanding flavour that came out.
