A friend of mine lives in Harlem so last time I went up there to visit him, we met at Bier International. This is a small spot that leans heavily on European (mostly German) beer. When I was there, they had Hofbrau, Weihenstephan, Reissdorf, Erdinger, Aventinus, Duvel... plus a couple of NY crafts like Sixpoint and Bronx.

Super expensive! Eight or nine dollars per pint/big glass. For Harlem, this is a tad outrageous.

The vibe is decent enough, open doors and tables outside and a chill, not-crowded atmosphere. But still- I wouldn't come back here. "Mediocre" is the word.

A nice little Harlem spot. Great selection of beer, especially German beer. They also have a decent selection of Belgian and some good American craft beers. Many choices in both draft and bottle. They serve it in huge Pilsner glasses. They have flights that remind me of being in a beer garden in Germany. I did not have food. I will go again.

I joined a friend at this place a couple of times in the past month and was favorably impressed. The draft selection is small but good, mostly focused on continental European brews, plus a few decent American craft ales. If you go there during the Friday happy hour (3pm-6pm), you'll get a real bang for the buck -- all the drafts are buy one, get one free of equal or lower price. All the beers are served in the appropriate glass. I've only tried a few items on the food menu, but they were all well-prepared and reasonably priced. Well worth a visit if you're in the neighborhood.

Mellow place with bench seating plus a nice bar and some outdoor tables; gets crowded weekend nights. Kid-friendly during the day and in the early evening. The staff are all pretty friendly and helpful. The selection is good but limited, with only about ten drafts. Lots of bottles, though. Food is decent but unexciting - get the German cuisine or the burger. Draft prices are reasonable, bottles expensive. A nice joint if you're in the neighborhood, but as others have said, nothing to go out of your way for.

We stopped in for a beer and quick snack while visiting friends in Harlem.

Bier International is a small, family friendly place located on the main drag in a new, or at least newly renovated building. A small bar with about 10 seats is located inside the door on the right, with a bunch of community style tables on the left. A very welcoming vibe.

The beer list is small, largely German with some Belgians and a couple of American crafts. I had a very nice Erdinger dunkel in the appropriate glass. We were there during brunch but just had a couple of snacks, which were quite tasty. Service was very friendly.

Not a destination but a great local stop if you live or are visiting nearby.

I was surprised to happen upon this new quasi beer garden in Harlem. Beer garden probably isn't the proper term. Small beer hall is probably a better description as there isn't a garden, though the front of the restaurant can be opened exposing the long tables to the outside. There were ten beers on tap ranging from standard Munich fare such as Hofbrau and Erdinger to belgian to American craft. There were 20 bottles on the menu with beers from Kenya, Czech Republic, Germany, and others. The atmosphere is very friendly, lively and surprisingly family friendly. Bier International is new and at times seemed to still be working out the kinks. The menu listed that many drafts could be ordered in three sizes, however, they apparently did not have the smaller glasses in stock. Overall, this is a great place to find some good beer (with some interesting international choices) and a great addition to this part of Manhattan.
