A must-see each year while venturing to GABF. It's literally three little shacks all cobbled together in a very cheap-looking (but awesome) dive-bar way. I had the misfortune of misplacing my credit card during the Avery promotion last year and upon my return the next day, the staff could not have been more helpful, supportive and understanding. Beer selection leans toward local...but fresh is better, right?

It's literally a dive bar, but with good beer (tap and cans), drinky drinks, and awesome staff. Beers tend to be Colorado-centric, but there's always some tasty treats from elsewhere on.
No kitchen, but all you need to do is walk your ass to Biker Jim's and bring it back.
Karaoke on Tuesdays and Thursday is entertaining as hell, they bring in some great bands on the weekends, and the do movie nights on the back patio.
Star Bar is a must hit stop when visiting Denver.

I'm a sucker for a good dive bar and Star Bar definitely has that going for it. I visited on a Weds. afternoon so it was quiet and relaxed. The craft can selection is pretty awesome - Oskar Blues, Avery, and Ska were some of the standouts. There are about 6 taps on the wall, which had more Oskar and Avery, plus a Dogfish Head and Firestone Walker. The bartender definitely knew his beer, plus dropped some great advice on other beer destinations to hit in Denver and the rest of Colorado. I was there for beer, but I could tell they were serious about their whiskey and cocktails too. It's located in a great area, within crawling distance to Falling Rock, Great Divide, and a few other beer spots.

Surprised there aren't any reviews yet...
This place, at first glance, would pass as a dive. And at some point, it probably was. Typical bar on the right, booths on the left, tables in between where there really isn't much space. It opens up a bit in the back where a broken foozeball table provides traffic blockage, and a pool table that actually has room to play. A back "patio" that's really more of a small alley.
This all adds up to a nice place to have a beer. Service is above average on a busy night. Tap selections are wide, but they are varied. Several can options and the standby "Banquet" beer.
But this place has a twist: beer cocktails. I didn't try any b/c I'm a scaredy cat, but I guess they blend beer with liquors. Some sound interesting, but not to me. Maybe one day I'll try one.
Live band in the back---they were playing surfing music
