Poured from a 0.5-liter bottle into a shaker pint glass.

A: Opaque, pale red-violet color with over one finger of persistent pink foam head. Moderate lacing remains on the glass.

S: Mild dark fruit, slightly vinous, with faint chemical yeast phenolics and carbon dioxide.

T: Begins almost dry, with pungent spicy phenolics, baker's yeast, and dark berry fruit that is slightly tart. Acidity is moderate and complimentary to the fruit into the middle where a thread of very pale and refined malt emerges. The finish becomes bone-dry and tastes of stale, mildly bitter hops.

M: Medium viscosity, acidic and very substantial--even rubbery--on the palate for the style, with moderate carbonation.

D/O: Although a bit aggressive and busy on the palate upon first exposure, this rustic farmhouse ale becomes very comfortable and satisfying after a few sips. The fruit qualities seem to be positioned just right: honest and complimentary to the beer's other sensory qualities, but never cloying. Despite its unapologetic Belgian yeast character, this beer is hard to get enough of.

Blackberry nose with some yeast, floral, over ripe fruit. Pours blackberry tinted amber under a very moussey 2” finely bubbled pink tinted head that persists and leaves extensive lace. Starts with dry malt which mingles with blackberry as it moves through your mouth – at the finish there is a big hop emphasis and then the finish is long and lingering dry black berry with all the wetness squeezed out over a moderate bitterness. A little tartness and astringency on the finish. The hops give the black berries a deeper flavor. A little above medium on the body and carbonation.

Surprisingly my first beer from BW, looking forward to seeing how it is. No canned date.

Pours a nice ruby red color with about two fingers worth of pink hued foamy head. Lace is thin.

Admittedly at first I was just getting a lager nose out of the can... pale malts and grain .. but when poured it transformed into a much better aroma profile. Slightly herbal and grassy, with lots of tart fruits (apple, peach, raspberry), along with some farmhouse yeast presence and clove. An overall mellow nose but transforms really nicely.

Slightly tart, more clove and sour fruits.. biscuity and just a hint of bitterness in the finish. The blackberry comes through more in the flavors , and balances a noticeable malt presence as well.

The body is thin, effervescent, and works nicely for the style. Crisp and dry.

500 mL bottle poured into a snifter.

Appearance - Deep pink body. Huge white head with a pinkish hue. Never settles. Layer of foam.

Smell - I would have guessed raspberry, but I guess it's blackberry. Musty. Yeasty. Light acidity.

Taste - Less fruity than the nose. Much yeastier. Bitter.

Mouthfeel - High carbonation. Kinda rough to drink. Medium light.

Overall - Not very pleasant. Had potential.

Huge blackberry flavor. Not overly sweet, slightly sour, good beer flavor underneath. Blackberry flavor is so fresh that you feel like you can taste the seeds. Very nice, and I am not a huge fan of fruit beers. Pleasant funk comes through after you have been drinking it for a while.

Pours a deep reddish purple into a tumbler glass, stiff meringue foam that rises above the rim and hangs there momentarily. The foam has a pinkish red hue to it from the blackberries. Clarity is low and the beer is fairly opaque. Lots of chunky lace with strong staying power. Lasting surface coverage.

Smells fruity, some berry and yeast, minerally grains.

Berry taste, reminds me of chewable vitamins a little bit. Grainy with a low level tartness. Lingering bitter aftertaste, dry grainy middle. Fruit is present up front, then dissipates leaving the saison base in the aftertaste. Medium bodied, not sweet at all.

Overall it looks great and has significant blackberry character. It's a bit grainy and could benefit from a little sourness, but worth a try.

500 ml bottle (1 pint 0.9 fl oz.) with no apparent bottled on date present. Acquired this bottle at the local beer store, my first beer from Brouwerij West. My first encounter with this sort of beer, and I'm not entirely sure what to expect. Listed here as a fruit / vegetable beer.

Poured into a Duvel tulip glass.

A - Pours a giant four plus fingers of fluffy foamy pinkish-purple cotton candy looking head on top of a dark purple-ruby colored body. Lots of active carbonation. Excellent head retention & big fat sheets of lacing. Looks pretty delicious.

S - Not really getting much on the initial sniff, but musty carbonation, and lemon / lime citrus qualities are what jump out at me. A sour / funky yeast presence is also noticeable, but it is otherwise pretty tame.

T - Oh yes, authentic tart blackberry juice puree is all there on the first sip. Generic berry jam. Slight vinous / grapey wine character. Dry bready / earthy yeast presence. Alcohol content is masked nicely. A simple yet intriguing and tasty beverage.

M - Feel is crisp and clean. Excellent drinkability for a 7.00% abv beer. Medium bodied with high brisk carbonation.

Overall, I thought it was a delicious introduction to this brewery for me. Probably my first ale brewed with blackberries also, and I have to say that they come through nicely. Not sure why this doesn't have higher ratings than it does, but I would surely have it again, and it scratches that mild everyday sour itch nicely.
