Whether you are celebrating lost cities under the sea or shooting for low Earth orbit, take Atlantis along for the ride. We use a special blend of dark malts and add Galaxy, Cascade, and Calypso hops to create this smooth and hoppy black ale with just a whisper of cherry-wood smoke. We think Poseidon would approve.

It poured a beautiful dark brown and left the same color body. A nice half inch tan head formed and slowly died into the body leaving spider web foamy lacing. The smell had the hops up front with a touch of roasted maltiness in the background. The taste brought back the roasted malts and added a bit of hops. Some coffee and chocolate rounded out the taste. The palate was smooth and felt great all around. Overall, this is a very nice hoppy black ale that I would definitely have again.

10 oz. on draft at the brewery.

Appearance: Pours a pretty much black with a short crown of foam. Looks somewhat mahogany as the drink goes on.

Aroma: Dark malts and a whiff of smoke. Some faint pine-type prickliness.

Taste: Citrus bite behind dark malts. Good mix of spicy hops and malty backbone. Not quite IPA-like, not quite porter-like. Tasty.

Mouthfeel: Very easy on the palate for a flavorful ale. Unlike a lot of "black ales," it doesn't feel like somebody botched a porter or an IPA; it's its own entity.

Overall: Good stuff. For fans of people who think black ales are weird; it might convert you.

From the 650 ml. bottle stamped Batch 187. Sampled on July 17, 2014.

The pour is jet black with a huge soft, foamy tan head that settles back after several minutes. Opaque.

The aromas are vibrant with earthy and floral hops dark roasted malts, molasses, and even a whiff of smoke.

The body is medium to full.

The taste emphasizes the hop character before anything else but those sweet dark malts balance it out wonderfully.
