Style: American IPA

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 7.20%

Availability: Year-round

Notes / Commercial Description:
Heady like the sweet breath of Zephyrus, our India pale ale is redolent of citrus, apples, and pears, balanced by a touch of caramel. We use malted barley grown by local farmers and add a special blend of Cascade, Centennial, and Calypso hops to create this juicy, hoppy ale.

From a Julio's mix-a-six, it's been a while since I've been able to say that. 12 oz stubby bottle reads Batch 312, Born on... February something 2015.

A - Pale orange color with a bit of haze. Big white foam on the initial pour settles to a solid half-finger, good lacing left as well.

S - Herbal, grapefruit, more general citrus coming through with time, caramel malt.

T - Lots of resiny pine and grapefruit, some grassy orange and floral, malt is toned down here and leaning a little more towards biscuity.

M - Highish bitterness but well-balanced by the malt. Pretty good body with medium carbonation and perhaps a touch of alcohol heat.

O - Not the most flashy IPA in today's market but pretty good.

A - Slight haze with a 2 finger plus fluffy white head. Fades slowly. Heavy lacing.
S - Not too much here. Some pine resin, caramel sweetness.
T - Much better. Pine resin, spiciness, caramel, toffee balance it out. I get some heat from the back end which is surprising for a 7.5% brew.
M - Medium body, medium carb. Some slick oiliness.
O - A good IPA. One I was waiting to try until I found it fresh. This one is only about a month old. Worth it, but a little underwhelming.

Pint on draft at b. good in Portland, Maine.

Appearance: Pours a slightly hazy light amber with a big white head that sticks around a long time. Lots of lacing on way down.

Aroma: Smells of apples, pine, lemon and some crisp herbal character.

Taste: Nice, hoppy IPA. Flavors of green apple and pine are up front. Some grassy character, too. Decent malt backbone.

Mouthfeel: Somewhat spicy, but easy on the palate for a fairly well-hopped IPA. It's not a bomb, but it's certainly a sturdy IPA, and the texture reflects that.

Overall: Well-executed IPA from a pretty great brewery. Solid member of their portfolio.
