Style: American Double / Imperial IPA

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 8.70%

Availability: Rotating

Notes / Commercial Description:
Formerly Calcutta Cutter

Cutter (n)—a single-masted sailing vessel with the mast set about two-fifths of the way aft along the waterline

Imperial IPA. Double IPA. XIPA. IIPA. Whatever you want to call it, Cutter is our homage to hops. Lots of hops. Early hops. Late hops. Very late hops. Dry hops. Then we condition the bottles in a bed of hops. Well, maybe not that last bit, but you get the idea. With just enough malt body and alcohol to balance the beer out, we let the lupulin shine.

Thought it would be better.. Not to bad.. Piney taste.. Grapefruit hint of taste.. Could be an acquired taste?

12 oz bottle poured into 8 oz water glass. Bottle date of 02/02/15

A: good clarity light amber use color with a soapy viscous looking small head

S: lots of bready and crackery malts upfront with some light citrus smells on the end

T: wow very light and juicy chasing the fruit flavors though they are here there but gone mango, melon, sweet oranges

M: Nice fuller bodied DIPA you know what you drank and some of the crackery fruit after tastes are great

O: Wow....I thought maybe because of the nose I got an end of it's rope DIPA but the taste still explodes this one fresh must have been mindbending. Well done Rising Tide, if you see it check the bottle date which I didn't think they did and then buy it if it's even 2 months old because damn it's good.

The beer pours a perfect copper color that you can almost see through, minimal haze.

The smell is fantastic, juniper and evergreen. Very fragrant and enjoyable.

The taste is near-prfect for me as a moderate hop-lover. Clean and dry, mildly fruity with lots of "Pine" (I think people mis-construe Pine with Juniper, so i'll say Pine but i mean Juniper).

The mouthfeel is good but as a fan of carbonation I could stand it to be a bit more bubbly.

Overall, I think this is a fantastic Extra IPA, I've had a few of their other beers and think this is the best by-far. Seems to be less available then their others but absolutely worth looking for. Cheers.

The appearance has a somewhat of a hazy dark brown colored body with a one fingered white foamy head that leaves some adequate clingy lacing that seems to be going all over the place. The smell has resinous hops with a nice citrusy aspect to it and also some nice spicy connotations to it as well. The taste has a bittersweet hoppy to sweet flavoring and combined all of the way through in the flavoring to leave a decent resinous aftertaste with a slight dry spicy finish. The palate sits about a medium on the body, not as sessionable as I had hoped for but did notice the 8.7% on the bottle so I guess I should have noticed that. Carbonation is good for the DIPA style and good for me. Overall, I would definitely take this one again.
