Appearance was the best thing about this beer. It's smell and taste suggested the use of ringwood yeast. It just tasted like butterscotch and caramel malt.

Poured from a 12 oz. can. Has a dark amber color with a 1/2 inch head. Smell is very mild, some light malts. Taste is hops up front, malts follow, with some caramel as well. Feels medium bodied in the mouth and overall is an easy drinking and enjoyable beer.

The CANQuest (tm) is back in full swing and I am happy to have the opportunity to review some Twisted Mazanita Ales as they recently landed in Philly. They are shrink-wrapped labels on the CANs, but I am interested in the message, not the medium. Or maybe it is the medium, but not the presentation. Ah, I give up!
From the CAN: "Caramelized - Roasted Finish - Nutty"; "Rustic Horizon has been championed by Twisted Manzanita friends, family and fans since before the brewery even opened. Originally omitted from the core lineup, a vocal group of homebrew tasters hassled us until we promised to brew it on the big system. This beer is all about balance, with just a hint of Cascade hops and a smooth feel for maximum drinkability. A touch of roasted malt accentuates its dry finish and cements its reputation as the people's beer."
I Crack!ed the CAN open and since everything seemed to be in order and the Buccos just beat the Pads with a walk-off single, I decided to celebrate with an inverted Glug. I got about 3/4 of the way in before the foaming head began to threaten overflowing the glass and I had to back off. I had a brief three fingers of foamy, tawny head that fell rather quickly, but leaving some lacing in its wake. Color was a Copper-Brown (SRM = > 17, < 22) with NE-quality clarity. Nose had a nutty, biscuity scent and I really perked up, following their Blonde swing & a miss. This also had a slightly perfume-y sweetness, piquing my curiosity. Mouthfeel was thin, approaching medium. The taste was great! Malty, slightly nutty, biscuity with a light sweetness that was about my upper limit a a hophead. Finish was semi-sweet, again in keeping with my upper limit as a self-avowed hophead. It had some of that homebrew twang, but I was not CANplaining. A decent beer.

Pours a deep copper color with a tight, off-white head that leaves little bits of lacing.
Smells of toasted malt and a bit of earthy hops.
Tastes of toasted malts mostly. Malts lead off with notes of caramel, toasted bread, and some nuttiness. This gives way to some earthy bitterness. Finishes with a metallic sourness.
Mouthfeel is medium with a smooth amount of carbonation.
Overall, this is okay but nothing special.

Poured a thin head on a clear, deep amber colored body.
The aroma has a strong caramel smell with a lemon note in the background.
The taste starts with caramel sweet and abruptly moves to a sharp lemon bitter flavor. It's on the sweet side overall.
The texture is crisp with soft edges and moderate carbonation.
It's not that great or interesting.
