This is interesting for being malty but dry. A flinty taste with some sharpness. Just not sweet at all. A brambly flavor in the back of the throat. Attractive dark amber color with plenty of foam. Bitterness comes on eventually but doesn't overwhelm the other flavors. Kind of a leather aroma. A little bit hot with the sharp fruity hops.

So it's different hops and some different flavors from the American head-banging style. More murky and fruity with a less pronounced bitterness. This is like no other IPA I've had but I think it makes up with drinkability and an continuing intrigue with the flavors.

On-tap at Manzanita Brewing Company

A: The pour is quite dark for an IPA, leaning toward the brown side of dark amber with a finger's worth of off-white head.

S: The nose isn't all that hoppy, but I guess we're looking at an English IPA here so it's a bit different. The citrus component is light and the majority of the aroma is bready malt.

T: Despite a rather bland nose, there's a pretty decent citrus flavor along with some light pine to provide bitterness. There's also a nutty quality to the flavor, likely from the toasted malts.

M: The body is good, we'll call it medium, with a slightly prickling carbonation.

D: It's interesting that they would opt for an English IPA, but I suppose the market in SD for brutally hoppy American IPAs is quite saturated. A disappointing nose, but a decent enough flavor.

poured a amber brown with a half finger of head and left a little lacing sticking to the glass. the nose was mainly malty with a touck of pine, grass, and hops that were quite hidden. The flavor was just like the nose pretty much malts with slight citrus notes but did have grassy pine and hops to add to the overall taste of this mild IPA. the brew was quite light in body with a fair amount of carbonation which had a slight citric malty finish. it actually drank very easy due to the lack of bitterness and flavor but it seemes like they are in the primary stages of really making something happen.

Thanks to bu11zeye for sharing this bottle.

The beer pours a yellow color with a white head. The aroma is a nice, balanced mix of orange with some bready malt. The flavor is bread, orange and grassy hops. The bitterness is fairly low for the style. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation.

Pours a hazy orange-ish to amber color with a light tan head. In the aroma, pineapple citrus and a small pine hop. In the taste, pine like dryness with notes of pineapple and orange citrus. A small hop bite with a medium bodied mouthfeel, with a lightly dry pine and citrus hop in the aftertaste. Big pine with a nice west coast citrus.

Poured from a draft into a pint glass at Manzanita Brewing Company in Santee, Calif. Color was basically caramel. About a finger of head. Light bubbly lacing on the top. Lots of film on the glass.

Smelled citrus hops, mostly lemon.

Tasted not as much as the smell would indicate. Tasted the alcohol right away. Lemon citrus hops. A tad malty and slight buttery.

Medium body. Average carbonation. Bitter, but abrupt finish.

A pretty good beer overall. Also much better than their DIPA, which I may need to knock down a peg or two.

A - Pours murky orange with incredible, creamy, sticky head. Lots of cling lace. This is a growler, too!

S - Light citrus, suggestive sweet malt.

T - Light middle caramel, bittered to good balance at finish.

M - Creamy, well carbed, good coating and nice balance.

D - Just visited Jeff at these new SD digs. I will be back.

Picked this one up at a liquor store in San Diego while vacationing a month or so back. Poured a cloudy dark golden color with a good sized white head. Aromas of dried pineapple, biscuit and piney hops. On the palate, this one is medium bodied, with juicy citrus, pine and light malt.

Chilled bottle into a glass. From Sideswipe. Thanks, John.

A: Pours a copper-orange body with mild haziness to it. Short-lived beige head.

S: Aromas of pineapple, biscuit, mild pine. This has a strong "stale hop" aroma reminiscent of wood and biscuits.

T: I can see how this is an English IPA; that stale hop and old towel aroma I hated in Stone 14th is present here. The tantalizing pineapple aroma fails to manifest in the flavor, though there is some pine and plenty of biscuit. Boring.

M: This is fine, though there is a small alcohol burn.

O: This didn't make me angry or anything, but I got bored and didn't finish it.
