Style: American Amber / Red Ale

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 8.50%

Availability: Limited (brewed once)

Notes / Commercial Description:
For our first two years we personally delivered all of our beers with the help of a little truck dubbed "the Danger Ranger." We're excited to have grown a bit - now we can focus on brewing beer rather than delivering it - and we're paying homage to many hours spent redlining around San Diego with this big red beer. Our high octane brew pairs the tangy citrus of Chinook, Centennial and Citra hops with the honey-roasted flavor of chicory root. Unconventional, but that's how we roll.

A gorgeous big foamy pour in the tall Peroni lager glass, with bubbles streaming in a cloud and the off-white pile of foam. Mouthfeel is sudsy as well plus the flowery aromatics and dried apricot nose. The color is what you'd hope a red ale would be-- dark coppery auburn.

This is loaded with malt, but it seems to have the dry edgy sensation and a hoppy scratch in the back of the throat. At first it's like a soft Brown ale, but way more flavorful, and then the hoppy, fruity flavors take over. A long bitter aftertaste, but by that time you're in love. This is just so good, but it has the bitter, dark fruit taste with a sensual mouthful of suds,

A double surprise-- a new brew from Manzanita, AND it's delicious! But now I'm reading the ABV and wish I hadn't topped off the glass quite so quickly. From the 22 oz bottle purchased at Albertson's supermarket in Mission Hills.

On tap at Yard House in Northridge, CA.

Pours a hazy copper with a foamy khaki head that settles to a partial film on top of the beer. Foamy streaks of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of toasted malt, caramel, citrus zest, and herbal hop aromas. Taste is much the same with citrus zest, earth, and perfume flavors on the finish. There is a medium amount of hop bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is an above average beer that is drinkable, but the perfume like flavor is odd.

Took a chance for Superbowl and tried a new beer in growler.

A - Nice clear red ale. 1/2 inch Off white head, leaves to disk pretty fast. Lots of spotty cling.

S - Deep hop nose, malt is very deep as well.

T - Very malty, has that cat pee, pot hop profile. Nice.

M - Medium body, good carb, nice balance.

D - A great choice for today. THanks!
