Served at the brewery into a thick Belgian tulip.

A - Dark amber to brown with foamy head. Lacing present, head didn't last long.

S - Chocolate and brown ale malts coming thru along with the Iron Fist belgian yeast (pretty sure its a house strain and not diff from one to the next).

T - Pretty nice actually, more brown ale like then most dubbels but the yeast character was quite nice here vs their other beers.
Still sweet but not over powering and seemed pretty well attenuated.

M - Thick start to a thinner finish. Slightly creamy.

D - This was a nice beer. I generally tend to not like dubbels so this was a surprise.

750 ml. bottle poured into a goblet. Dubbel Fisted pours a medium brown in color, being a hazed mahogany in the light. Half an inch of bubbly off white foam builds for a bit then dissipates rather swiftly but does manage to keep a light cap with some agitation.

Malty nose with dark fruits and a bit of chocolate and spice with some agitation. Yeast notes are thin but do reveal themselves slightly with warming along with some brown sugar and a touch of alcohol. Bit thin largely due to the light carbonation I would assume, otherwise decent.

Taste is a bit thin up front but firms up through the palate. Another victim of carbonation woes as the taste is fuller after a fresh pour. Plum and roasted caramel with a light chocolate/hop bitterness and a hint of berry.

Feel is smooth but light though thankfully not too syrupy like many a stab at the style. Easy drinking as a result though I think a finer carbonation would yield more complexity throughout. This doesn't come across as a bottle conditioned beer, which surprised me given the expectations I carried into this brew and given the style it seeks to emulate, the bottle which contained it, and the price I paid for it. Bottom line, this beer needs more carbonation to kick it up a notch, and a firmer and more robust bottle conditioning is in order.

Enjoyed from the bomber in a snifter. This very nice dubbel
pours a murky reddish brown with a nice head of fluffy off white foam that
lingers long and settles to a thick 1/4 inch layer with nice lacing. Nose of
biscuits, orange zest, light notes of cinnamon and coriander, and rich brown
sugars. Flavors follow but are exceed by sheer volume and heft of the usual
suspects. Rich brown sugars and biscuit malts mingle with yeasty goodness
and come to rest on the middle and back of the taste with orange zest, light
cinnamon, white pepper notes, and a dash of coriander. Very nice mouth feel,
smooth, medium body, nice carbonation, lightly coating, and near perfect for the
style. Also it was a BARGAIN for 7.99 a bottle. The is of note a herbal note that seems
to be from the orange zest which almost makes it have a triple sec effect leaving a light warming
on the back. Very nice.

If this was put in front of me and I was told it was from Belgium I would never know
without seeing the bottle. Very nice.

Thanks Amanda for lugging these beers back from LA!

Reddish brown, transparent with ample off white foam on the surface, sticking around for a good while. Spotty lace in the glass.

Sweet caramel and dry yeast phenolics, mellow and pleasant.

Caramel, brown sugar, spicy character from the Belgian yeast. Mellow body and smooth light carbonation gives it a slightly nectar-like feel. Overall pretty balanced and easy drinking for the style, though best shared.

Bottle: Poured a deep brown color ale with a rather large foamy head with good retention and some good lacing. Aroma of dry caramelized malt with light fruity ester and some dry raisins and plum notes is not as rich and enticing as I had expected. Taste is also dominated by dry caramelized malt with some light fruity ester and some dry raisins and plums notes. Residual sugar is quite lower then I would have expected for the style. Body is about average with good carbonation and no apparent alcohol. Not bad overall but not as rich and sweet as I was expecting.

Chill hazed brown colored beer with a very small white head. Very certain that this is a beer clean glass so the missing head is surprising.

Smells spicy with a strong brown sugar aroma. Mild coriander and cinnamon scent. Very faint apple aroma.

Starts off mildly sweet with some plum and cake flavor. Mild coriander and a chocolate cake flavor. Strong warming sensation in the chest but no flavor of alcohol. Mild brown sugar flavor. Pretty tasty.

Mouthfeel is good.

Overall not a bad beer. Would score higher if the missing head could be found.

Iron Fist Dubbel Fisted

A-pour produces a 1-1/2 finger tan head resting on a deep amber body that is cloudy. Head recedes quick leaving little in the way of lacing 3.5

S- brown sugar, ripe dark fruits like plum and fig, light chocolate, caramel, Belgian yeast 4

T- a little muted for my tastes. Similar to the nose it leads off with brown sugar and Belgian yeast. This is followed by ripe dark fruits, caramel, milk chocoalte, spices and molasses. There are also subtle notes of pear and green grapes which is surprising. It's good and the muted flavor makes this a very easy beer for gulping down given the abv, but I prefer to sip my dubbels anyways so this doesn't matter. 3.5

M- light on carbonation and slightly syrupy mouthfeel 3.5

O- a good dubbel and easy drinking. It is pretty complex but muted at the same time. A good dubbel but nothing amazing 4
