750mL bottle from Sprayberry Bottle Shop (Marietta, GA). 14.99. 2015 edition, released 5/15. Served in a Wild Heaven snifter.

Pours a deep ruby chestnut with two full fingers of frothy biege head. The foam is slow to settle to a wide collar, depositing occasional swaths of lace.

Full aromas of dried fruit, tequila, lemons, vanilla and faint cocoa. Nice blend of barrelling with the base.

Wow! I was skeptical about what tequila barrels would do to Civilization but it turns out that was baseless. The tequila doesn't overpower as it has in many other tequila barreled brews I've tried. Instead the more subtle aspects like agave sweetness and oak wrap around the other flavors like a warm hug. Tequila, tart cranberry, lemon peel, cocoa, agave, toffee, oak, caramel, floral spice, faint char, earth, cherries and a warming booze precense. The barrels work in concert with the base to really elevate it, creating delicious layers of bold, rich flavor. The alcohol is a tad hot in some sips but for the most part blends into the other huge flavors.

Full body, bordering heavy, with supple carbonation. The finish is lingering and complex with layers of toffee, dried fruit, tequila and burnt oak.

I'm very happy with Wild Heaven's first special large-format release. I've enjoyed Civilization several times in growlers so it is fantastic to have Height of Civilization in a bottle. Arguably the best use of tequila barrels for a beer that I've tried. This one is worthy and I plan to buy and enjoy several more.

Enjoyed this beer at Cigar City's Hunahpu's Day 2016 in Tampa, FL. This is the first beer I've tried from Wild Heaven and I was excited to try with the unique combination of ingredients. Overall, I really enjoyed this barleywine and would love to try this again in the future.

look: Dark mahogany. Full tan head on the pour that sticks around.
smell: Rich cocoa that must be the nibs rehydrated in 4 Roses. Fruit presence I suppose courtesy of the dried Prussian lemons, cherry's and cranberries. A hint of booze that must be the Dulce Vida Tequila barrel treatment. Quite a nose i mean.
taste: Not quite as rich as the nose. Similar profile but the flavors are more blended and subtle.
overall: Interesting well crafted beer. Surprisingly drinkable. Would never guess this is 12%.

Note: this is my first experience with a barleywine, although I have had other strong ales (mainly Belgian).

Appearance: medium brown. Is fairly carbonated, has a thin head, and phenomenal lacing.
Nose: powerful scent of cherries, along with cranberries, citrus, dates, and toasted almond.
Body: full, yet crisp.
Taste: first greeted by a mix of cranberry and cherry, gets lost in the middle with some roasted nut flavors and some citrus notes, then finishes with tequila and oak.
Finish: rich, long, warming as it goes down your throat.

Is this really 12%? Does not taste like it in the slightest. So smooth. In the end, while I enjoyed the taste highly, it wasn’t as complex as I was hoping for. Does change flavor with warming which is nice touch.

This is an excellent beer that packs a wallop. It's not my favorite simply because if I had too much of this I'd be stumbling in an alley somewhere with no idea of how to make it back home.

There is a whole lot going on with this one. Big tequila and dried fruit nose. Taste follows with lots of caramel and just a touch of citrus. Definitely better once it warmed. Outstanding offering from Wild Heaven
