I have not had this in some time so this review is from memory so the details are a little hazy. This is one of only a few beers I've had that had to grow on me. At first I hated it. Too sour, very harsh alcohol finish. But then I bought some more for my father in law who fessed up he didn't like it so rather than dump it I drank it again. Funny thing is that the sourness and alcohol flavor I didn't like before worked this time. It is a difficult beer to categorize. From this amateur's opinion it reminds me of an old ale- good sour fruit and molasses flavor. If you drink this, buy two. The first will suck and you'll fall in love with the second.

This one's been sitting around the cellar and begging for attention, so time to give it a go.
Pours dark brown with reddish hues and a prolific tan froth.
A decoy aroma of quite sour dark fruits is sent strong before notes of grain and taffy take off in a different direction.
Tastes of grain, phenols, licorice, dried dark fruits (plum and raisin) and has a slightly sour finish.
Medium bodied and the alcohol is not a factor.
What is this? It's a beer. And this one isn't all that one way or the other. Just drink it.

This is a nice Belgian Strong Ale with great head retention.

Maybe the bottle was too old, maybe not my style, but ouch. Drain pour.
