On tap at the Draught House 43rd Anniversary Party.

The beer pours a hazy brown color with a small off-white head. The aroma is made up of sweet toffee malt with some sugar notes and a few spices.

The flavor is similar. I get quite a bit of the sweet toffee and biscuit malts, but the Belgian yeast also adds a little bit of spiciness. The alcohol is noticeable.

Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation.

This is supposed to be a dark saison, but I don't really get any saison notes other than the few things the Belgian yeast adds. This tastes more like an American Brown Ale brewed with saison yeast, which may have been what the brewers were going for.

Looked forward to trying this one and I wasn’t disappointed. Ranger Creek’s Saison Oscura joins Stillwater’s Existent and Avery’s rye-saison 18th as a “dark” saison, just perfect for the cooling weather of a San Antonio fall.

This pours a dark amber, murky almost. Like a traditional saison at dusk.

No foam to speak of. A bit of a saison funk on the nose, with a light roast. Some tartness to the flavor and a bitter finish. Not as big or roasty as, say, the Existent, but still enjoyable nonetheless. If you’re a fan of roast and funk then this is your beer. I was pleased, enough to double up on it. But be careful—I’m not sure what the ABV is exactly but it’s somewhere in the 8-9% range.
