Small taproom with limited seating, usually have fairly regular events and such throughout the week. Local brew I've gotta support.

this place was pretty high on our list when we visited san antonio, and it proved to be a very enjoyable stop. i was blown away to see close to a hundred people when we popped in on a saturday, apparently their tasting tours are very popular, they had two groups going and the place is only small. a front room had folks assembled ready to taste whiskey and listen to their story, while another party in the back was learning about the process and drinking beer. seemed cool, but we didnt register in advance, and only wanted to hang for a beer. we were greeted super warmly by a guy who must own the place, took time to chat with us and be very personable even though they were crazy busy. i loved the hospitality, it made the experience that much better, and set a great vibe. we got a couple beers and went out to their patio, which looks like it occasionally pops off, but when we were there we had it to ourselves. kind of industrial area there, and lots of junk and old equipment piled up around, but the space is mellow and comfortable, and we had a great time playing cards back there. i had a smoked porter and the lady a coffee english strong ale, both were creative and delicious, and we wished for more time to explore the rest of the list. they do some crazy wild beers in here too i was bummed to not try, but time was limited. they have a great thing going, a distilling operation there too, and some ambitious beers and a cool vibe. limited hours, but worth making it work with your schedule. keep it up guys, this place is great!

It's in the industrial area but still a great place to hang out in the evenings or weekends. They absolutely have the best craft beer, bourbon and whiskey in SATX - and they brew it all on-site, not haul it in like the other "distilleries" in SATX.

We took the Saturday tour with 30ish others. TJ Miller (1 of the 3 owners and head distiller) was our tour host. As others said, for your $10 you get a nonic, 2 hours of information, and choice of 3 beers or 2 beers and 4 tiny samples of bourbon. They explain that they give a "Texas sized sample", which equates to about 12 ounces. Of course, you can ask for less beer.

We rode our bikes there and arrived 1 hour early. They graciously invited us in and let us park the bikes inside the brewhouse.

The beers were all very good:
Red headed stranger (red IPA),
Love struck Hefe (beautiful flavor),
OPA (oatmeal American pale ale) so smooth
Sunday Morning Coming Down (British strong ale) a coffee stout with 2 types of beans, and
Purple Rhine (prickly pear Berliner Weisse). The last had a light pink hue and a great sour taste. The name is also a play on Prince's "Purple rain".

Since we are not hard liquor people, we only tried two of the four bourbons. I learned a lot about the process, though.

I heartily recommend this tour. TJ and his co-owners are passionate about their brewstillery and love what they do. Highlight was the shipping container smoker and the cask conditioning shipping container.

Not overtly impressive but the staff was cool and they did a good job explaining how to taste whiskey.

Did a Saturday tour which was ok but congested. Beers were enjoyable but not exemplary. Had a decent selection, didn't try any of their spirits. Service was good considering the circumstances. Vibe seemed a little bit hectic. Worth a visit but probably will not be back with other options nearby.

Ranger Creek is a combo brewery/distillery in the outskirts of San Antonio, Texas.
The tour began with everyone receiving an embossed Nonic and either 3 tickets for beer or two beer tickets and one whiskey ticket. Everyone got their first 12 oz sample from the current selection on tap and the tour began. The first half hour or so was devoted to the background of Ranger Creek, the brewing process in general and specifically at Ranger Creek, and a Q&A session. That was followed by a beer refill and a tour of the brewery. The next session was a discussion of the distilling process, the difference between moonshine and whiskey, and a visit to the still. This was followed by a sample of the bourbon (NOT a 12 oz sample!) and open sampling of their other whiskey products (I prefer the rye). Overall, a good value at $10/ticket - a nonic, 3 12 oz beers, and a very entertaining pair of guides in the owner/head brewer and his father. This tour fills up fast so get tickets on line a couple of weeks before your planned visit.
