Pint served at the Lumberyard brewpub in Flagstaff.
{This is called Lumberyard Porter and is not called nor described as an Imperial Porter by the brewery].
Looks good: very dark brown with a small but exceptionally durable tan head. The glass is left rather fully covered in sticky lacing.
Aroma: attractive if a bit timid and simple.
The same description applies to the flavor where the weak character is more evident and more of an issue. The malt profile leans towards the lightly roasted end for an ale of this style.
M: nicely carbonated; smooth; a bit lighter than it should be.
O: No flaws except being weak and timid compared to the Odells Cutthroat Porter I had earlier today.

Enjoyed inside a tall shaker-style glass.

Matte black at the middle, with hazy amber and ruby at the lighter points. Topped with a fluffy one finger head of French vanilla bubbles that are frothy like sea foam. The head remains forever, with oodles of tattered sheets of lace.

Lighter aroma. Lots of medium roast coffee, dark chocolate, oats, some woodsy hops.

Light flavor as well. Coffee, tangy smoke, hints of sourdough, a bit of dark chocolate. Bit of oats at the clean and dry finish.

Medium massaging carbonation, light watery body and a tiny bit of fizz. Kind of insubstantial.

Meh. This porter’s too light in flavor and feel for me. Drinkable, but not worth a second stop.
