Draft pour into a shaker pint glass at Famous Pizza in Sedona.

A: Clear, medium golden color with less than one finger of diminishing white foam head. Scant lacing remains on the glass.

S: Mild honeyed grain is refined, with little hops influence besides a weak floral thread. Dimethyl sulfide is also detectable, although nowhere near overwhelming.

T: Begins off-dry, with doughy malt and mild acidity. Flavors drop off quickly into the middle, leaving a nondescript sweetness that is replaced by unadorned bitterness that is moderate for the style.

M: Thin to medium viscosity, slightly syrupy on the palate, with low carbonation.

D/O: This safe and inoffensive pale lager is nominally styled after the Bavarian pilsner archetype. It is typical of a brewpub offering intended to provide an option for conventional beer drinkers. It is guilty of further reinforcing the mistaken notion that pilsners ought to lack interesting sensory qualities. It aspires to cleanliness by the finish, but does not appear up to the task.

Clear pale golden color poured in the tall Pilsner glass. A nice foam and prickly enough on the tongue. A little flowery aroma. Starts out crisp but gets a little flabby. Modestly malty, but more of a cereal taste.

There is a sort of gummy, resiny taste in the back of the throat. Crackers and a touch of bitter hops at the end. Pleasant enough for a quaff, but this seems to lack the sharp and flowery tang that the better examples of the Pilsner style have. From the 22 oz bottle bought in Flagstaff.
