12oz bottle, 2015 vintage (and the only vintage as far as I know). Served in a snifter glass. Pours a dark black body, foreboding and opaque, one finger mocha head, good retention, medium collar, not much lacing. Smell is rich brandy, oak, a bit of ash, chocolate, a bit of cocoa powder. The brandy adds a really nice dimension. Flavour is as complex as it smells, sweet brandy without much boozy flavour, oak, cocoa powder contributing some bitterness, ash a bit of astringency and dryness, milk chocolate sweetness. A lot of balancing flavours here. Mouthfeel is medium bodied, slightly thinner than the base Garún, but man, it is smooth with a nice brandy character on the finish without the booziness. A nicely done barrel-aged stout, and with a non-traditional barrel for the stout, too.

Insane coconut barreling up front growing on me as warms with a bit more subtlety. Boozy like anything. Cognac aroma. Reddish brown. Thanks Ibrian. A mixed bag.

Bottle at 101 Harbor, Iceland.

A- Pitch black pour from the 330ml into a Borg snifter with a light tan cap. The one finger thick creamy cap dies down slowly to a frothy ring. Spots and small splotches of lace remain on the glass.

S- Brandy off the top with a massive presence of bright almost tart dark dried fruits. Beyond that is an abyss of dark chocolate fudge, heavily toasted nuts, cherry truffles, raisin, figs, plums, wet winey oak and vanilla.

T- The intense, bright brandy rounds out and balances in more to the rich dark grains and the yeast. The balance really is impressive here as dark Mexican chocolate, charred barley, nutty brown malts and toffee lead into spiced raisin, plum, fig, cherry, raw wet oak, vanilla bean, vinous tannins, spicy rye and brown sugar cut into the grapey dark fruit brandy. Reminds me of both a quad and a beastly BA stout, marriage.

MF- Super thick yet creamy and chewy body that comes with some slickness and medium carbonation. Ends borderline hot but it suits the flavors.

A damn fine treat when in an amazingly beautiful country. I will be back to you Borg.
