Everything about this beer is fantastic - except the taste. It looks perfect, smells better, and it is really drinkable. But there is something about the lingering taste that depend set well. It tastes like fruity pebbles. It has a fruit juice or kool-aid quality that lingers as well.
I love Terrapin, and you may love this beer. But it isn't for me.

"Krunkles returns with a new IPA from his time spent on the underside of the world. Brewed with hops exclusively from New Zealand and Australia, this 'South Pacific IPA' is packed with so much flavor, it might even make a Kiwi say G'Day!" Brewed in the style of an American IPA, avaiable in 12 oz. canned 6 packs and on seasonal draft.
Poured from a 12 oz. can to a tulip glass.
(Appearance) Pours a crisp, fizzy foam head of a pastel white color over a mildly hazy pale amber body with no visible carbonation. Retention is very good and lacing is light and spotty. 4
(Smell) Light, accessible citrusy hop aroma with floral and herbal undertones, a moderate bitterness and a smooth, pale and crystal malt body with a moderate sweetness. The hop profile, while enticing, is fairly ordinary, with no real spots of vivid brightness or unique elements to it. Potency is moderate. 3.5
(Taste) The flavor largely follows the aroma, with a smooth, pale and crystal malt body and a moderate hoppy bitterness with lesser bold flavors of citrus pith, underripe fruit and softly dank herbal notes. It's perhaps a notch more ordinary than the aroma suggested, bordering on fairly average with not a lot of flavor potential from the malt nor the hop profiles. 3
(Mouthfeel) Texture is slick, lightly residual, mildly oily, mildly dry. Carbonation is very low, generating a mild frothiness and an unusual, nearly flat finish. Body is shy of medium for the style, short of medium overall. Balance is slightly hoppy bitter over malt sweetness. Alcohol presence is light and there are no off characters. The lack of proper carbonation negatively impacts this beer's overall impressions. 3
(Overall) With the recent increase of New Zealand and Australian hop varieties increasing in the IPA market, I thought that Terrapin may have had a decent opportunity at showcasing them in this series. Unfortunately, the hop flavor is very weak and one-dimensional, the malt profile equally ordinary, and the lack of carbonation significantly hampers drinkability. I'm hoping this particular can is an anomaly compared to the rest of the batch, as this beer was overall not very enjoyable. 3.25

$ 1.84 (Including Beer club discount and tax)/12 oz can ($ 0.154/oz) at State Line Liquors, Elkton, MD.
Can dated 4/26/2017 at 42 degrees into a hand washed and dried Jester King snifter.
Aroma – sweet and fruity with a bit of goldenrod. Does not last.
Head – large (Maximum 6 cm, aggressive pour), off white, low density froth with average retention diminishing to an irregular three to four mm ring and a rocky partial layer. The second pour gives a denser head eight mm thick.
Lacing – fair. Partial rings of thick foam.
Body – light orange, clear.
Flavor – Begins slightly bitter with a sort of fruity taste but not very. Ends with a malty note, slightly sweet. Somehow tastes more like a watered down juice box rather than a beer. Definitely no alcohol flavor or burn. No diacetyl.
Palate medium, slightly oily, soft carbonation.
Well, I’m not a fan of this beer. I find it to be very un-beerish. Probably it’s the hop blend. I will not be buying any more of this.

Pours a very clear orange amber with a big head that leaves some very nice lacing behind. Aroma is hoppy with string citrus notes. The taste is very well balanced overall, with string elements of blood orange, citrus rind and some dank. Smooth mouthfeel. A very enjoyable IPA even if I failed to detect a South Pacific character in it (not very experienced at doing so I must confess).
