The beer comes in dark brown/black color with some dark red coming through the edges. The head is a dark mocha brown color.

The aroma has this extremely fresh and vibrant coffee aroma. Bright espresso beans. One of the most aggressively “fresh” coffee smells on a beer. Roasted coffee, some vanilla, milk chocolate, roasted malt melding with that coffee. Tinge of alcohol.

The flavor follows with that freshly roasted coffee up front, acidic black iced coffee. The beer hits with a smack of alcohol in the middle. The finish drives home of bittersweet chocolate, hints of vanilla, toffee, more chocolate, and some of that coffee bitterness. There’s some chocolate sweetness that balances with the vanilla and coffee.

The beer has a full mouthfeel and leaves a bit of stickiness lingering.

This is a wonderful beer for coffee lovers. It has this fresh essence of roasted coffee that many other coffee stouts do not have. This beat out Founders Breakfast Stout in all fronts, aroma, flavor, and mouthfeel.

Wake and Bake
Poured this into a monster size gold rimmed thistle glass. The small creamy tan head settles down to a healthy skim. The body is darkness collapsed upon night, however and almost magically somehow still brown. Incredible.
The aroma is all roasted malt, deep rich coffee, a hint of coca, with a fair wallop of booze.
The flavor is sweet with toasty roasty grains, like a chocolate cupcake drowned in Kahlua. Kind of reminds me of my favorite mixed drink: The black Russian.
The mouthfeel is smooth, oily and finally sticky--all in a glorious way.
Overall this brew indeed lives up to the hype. Glad I intrepidly shelled out twelve bucks for the four pack. Truly worth it for sure.
