Re-review 12/2015 from bottle, vintage 2015, 15450 (450th day of 15? Maybe that's a 150, but that seems wrong, also):
Dark brown/mahogany; visible clarity at the edges. Head is deep tan, and quick to fade; standard head left at edges.

Nose is wonderful coffee/chocolate. A coffee bake shop in a glass. Deep roast coffee with a little cream and sugar. Later in the pour, a little charred coffee seeps in - one of the many pots has been sitting in the burner too long.

Taste is a more standard stout overall. There is an accent of coffee - nicely done. There is also some oatmeal that adds a little chalkiness to the feel for me - but integrated nicely. Lightly astringent twisted malts early, with hints of the oatmeal, and even lighter hints of woody/pine close out the taste. Some sips I get a little bite of smoke, but that's hit or miss.

Wrote this without reviewing my original review, which is below (and had straight 4.25 rating). This beer is a nice imperial stout. I wish the coffee played a little more in the taste, and oatmeal stouts are rarely going to hit the very top of my enjoyment list, but this one is a very solid stout offering, regardless.

Original review on cask 12/2014:
Pours dark as expected, close to if not black. Foamy deep tan head sits on surface well into pour, lacing the glass. Nose to me is amazing, sweetened coffee with cream; a smokiness to the roasted malt has a cigarette (or similar) smell. Truly deep roasted notes throughout.

The taste follows the nose except for a tad less sweet, more like a barely sweetened black coffee. The roasted smokiness (not rauchbier-like) from the nose also hits the tongue mid taste. The end taste adds a bit more hops bitterness, grassy in nature, and dry in the vein of (but different than) how a dry Irish stout ends. The one detraction to me is that the feel is a bit light, even a tad watery, and I think feel is important in this style. I realize the cask could be at least partially affecting this, but that's what I have to review. That said, it is also oily smooth, which does redeem the feel a bit.

This is definitely a beer to have one of when available, and probably only one. This is not because of the quality, but for me I am not sure I want the flavor profile repeatedly (I also usually stop at one cup of coffee).

What makes this stout so excellent is how well the coffee is blended with the beer. In this respect, Wake n' Bake is one of the most successful coffee stouts out there. The base beer does not match the quality of Goose Island Bourbon County or Great Divide Yeti. Unlike these beers, however, Wake n' Bake requires no aging--it is perfectly balanced right now.

A: Motor oil black with little brown head. No lacing.

S: COFFEE. Lots and lots of coffee. Smells like a freshly ground bag of coffee beans.

T: Again, lots of coffee. Some caramel and dark chocolate as well. No taste of alcohol at all.

M: Medium bodied for a stout. Not too thick where you can't drink more than one, but not too thin also.

O: Pretty interesting beer. Definitely something I'm glad I bought but not sure if I'd buy it again.
