the original wake n bake right here, i can't believe it took me this long to get my hands on one. a lovely example of the style, shockingly strong for how mellow it feels on the palate, and as dark as midnight when it pours. a lazy tan head hangs around before dropping off. it smells almost like fire roasted chili peppers, like long hots or something, charred and a bit spicy. i think its from the coffee, which is very deeply roasted, and compliments the roasted barley and chocolate malt. oats are in abundance, i smell the sweetness, and feel the body in the velvet textured beer as i sip it down. coffee is present all the way through, and i really do get a morning coffee and biscuit vibe from this. cookie-like malt profile behind the bitterness, and a slight cocoa bitter to the finish. not layered or coming in waves like some, but well integrated flavor all the way through, with a long but mellow finish. terrapin makes some cool beers, but this is one of the original and best. i am most amazed at how strong it is, i would have guessed 6% abv in a blind tasting. worthy of its highly regarded status.
