Good looking brew, with a tan head with excellent retention on the initial pour.

Aroma is inviting, with roasted barley, nuts, and cocoa.

Flavor follows, with a slightly sticky sweetness that goes along with an almost sharp red grape juice flavor. Decent amount of roasted barley and cream. Chocolate flavors are roughly medium sweetness, and the hazelnut just adds an accent on the edges, never really coming into focus.

Quite drinkable and enjoyable.

This is an all around good beer, but it falls short of greatness.

375ml waxed and capped bottle into Night Shift stemware. Shared with schen9303.

Nose is lightly tart. Hints of vanilla, lactose, coca-cola, roasted malt and chocolate. A little less sweet and less chocolate-y than I thought it'd be. Beer opens cinnamon, spice, cocoa powder, chocolate, hazelnut and lactose. Accented on the palate and tastes like Christmas spices. Real sweet and sugary on the finish. Solid but weird. Body is medium to light with moderate carbonation. A little too much bubbles and a touch thin to carry the flavor in this one.

The idea with this beer is nice but the follow-through is a little lacking. The body could be fuller and the flavor is more spicy and floral than chocolate and hazelnut.

Pours an effervescent ebony with a sliver of tan head. Zero head retention & lacing

S: Iron & cocoa

T: Mocha, hazelnut flavor, dryness up front. Chocolate, dryness, a touch of coffee as this warms, then some fakey hazelnut almost like a coffee creamer. Finishes dry, with mocha & a little hazelnut

MF: Fairly chewy, low carbonation

Solid, but there is an artificial flavor going on here that detracts. Hoped fro better

A: poured into a snifter to a black beer topped by a small light tan head which fades quickly to a small collar around the edge of the glass with no lacing
S: Smells of chocolate and roasted malts with some hazelnut notes.
T: Taste is milk chocolate, light coffee, light roasted malts, a little hazelnut. This is a very sweet stout to put it bluntly. Swallow is more milk chocolate, coffee and a hint of lingering hazelnut with some slight roasted malts
M: This beer is fairly full on the palate and slightly silky with carbonation that is just below prickly. The beer also has a drying finish.
O: Overall this is an interesting beer but it is very light on the hazelnut. I think that note could have been more pronounced. Other than that the beer leans very heavy on the sweet end of the spectrum and even in the small format it seems to lend itself to sharing. I've drank a lot of big and sweet beers but this is the first one that I've ever wanted to split. Decent complexity and some solid notes though so if you like the style you may enjoy it.

Bronze wax capped 500mL bottle from Sherlock's (Marietta, GA). 11.98. 2017 Reserve, released 11/2017. Served in a Terrapin snifter. Enjoyed 11/18/17.

Pours black with two and a half fingers of khaki head. The foam recedes to a thin, wispy layer with a narrow crown, leaving a few sparce clumps of lace.

Smells of milk sugar, dark chocolate, vague roast and some faint sharp, earthy nuts. Sweetens nicely as it warms.

Flavors of bittersweet dark cocoa, sugary lactose, a hint of hazelnut coffee, roasted malt, cooked caramel and just a mild tickle of alcohol.

Medium full, fairly creamy feel with moderate carbonation. Lingering bittersweet aftertaste with notes of high concentrate dark cocoa, and lactose sweetened hazelnut coffee.

Another year brings another Reserve release of Terrapin's imperialized Moohoo milk stout. Somehow this hazelnut version comes across a more bitter than the previous coffee blend. A fun and tasty take that I'm glad I tried.

Rise and shine craft beer lovers, the Terrapin brewing team gets us out of bed with a chocolaty breakfast drink that's obviously meant for adults. With copious amounts of dark chocolate, hazelnut of roasted malt, a milkshake for beer lovers is born.

Pouring with a freakishly dark mocha froth, its head is loosely knit and dissolves rapidly with an oddly sparkling zest. Dark chocolate brown in color, Moo-tella leads with the decadence of death by chocolate cake, along with accessorizing scents of espresso, hazelnut, vanilla and cream. Sweet cream, caramel and chocolate lead the way in taste while nuances of toffee, nuttiness, toast and chocolate milk lurk closely behind.

Remaining rich on the middle palate, the tastebuds are saturated with malt sweetness and copious chocolate additions. Cream, vanilla and hazelnut add a softer demeanor with a soothing comfort while the hops join with the roasted grain and reinforce a bitter baker's chocolate finish with broad woodsy, light smoky bitterness.

Devilishly full, lush and creamy, the beer looses its cream and marshmallowy textures late and the beer trends slightly drying, exposing a harsher bitterness and astringent roast character that serves as the dark ale's only drawback. A long linger of coffee, baker's chocolate and walnut keep the robust, savory and roast edges of the session on the precipice of taste.

500 ml bottle into snifter, 2017 vintage bottling. Pours opaque dark brown/black color with a 1-2 finger fairly dense and fluffy khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, hazelnuts, coffee, caramel, brown sugar, vanilla, cream, marshmallow, fudge, cake batter, and dark/brown bread; with light notes of toffee, herbal, pepper, and roast/toasted earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance and complexity of dark/roast/bready malts, hazelnuts, chocolate, and lactose notes; with solid strength. Taste of big milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, hazelnuts, coffee, caramel, brown sugar, vanilla, cream, marshmallow, fudge, cake batter, and dark/brown bread; with light notes of toffee, herbal, pepper, and roast/toasted earthiness. Mild herbal/roast bitterness on the finish. Lingering notes of milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, hazelnuts, coffee, caramel, brown sugar, vanilla, cream, marshmallow, fudge, cake batter, dark/brown bread, and roast/toasted earthiness on the finish for a while. Very nice complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malts, hazelnuts, chocolate, and lactose flavors; with a nice hop/roast bitter/sweet finish, and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Lightly increasing dryness from lingering hop/roast bitterness. Light-medium carbonation and medium-full body; with a very smooth, creamy/silky/bready, and lightly sticky/chalky mouthfeel that is nice. Zero warming alcohol for 8.5%. Overall this is a very nice imperial milk stout. All around nice complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malts, hazelnuts, chocolate, and lactose flavors; very smooth and easy to drink for the ABV. Very well balanced all around. Nice richness with good presence of the hazelnuts/chocolate, and a spot on base imperial milk stout malt profile. At 8.5%, I wasn't expecting a thick beer. It does well at the ABV. Maybe a bit thin, but nothing to complain about. A very enjoyable offering.
