Served in an Olde Hickory shaped-glass.

A: Poured a dark, dark reddish-brown. I only say reddish because I got a good bit of ruby in the color. The head was about a 1/2 finger and was lean and mean.

S: Lots of dimension here in this brown: First of all, I got the cinnamon right of the bat, along with the vanilla, which gave it its dessert flair. I didn't really get cocoa nibs per se on the nose, but the nuttiness could be interpreted as that.

T: The cinnamon and vanilla are AWESOME in this setting! Seriously, to hell with the cocoa, those are the flavors that really make this brown. I also got a good bit of cinnamon on the tail end, which reminded me of a Christmas Winter Warmer.

M: Like I said, this one is cinnamon heavy, so if you don't like that spice, you might not like this beer. Fall-like and/or Christmasy in its disposition. Dessert-like, but not too rich, with very little to no lacing.

O: I can't think of an American Brown Ale I've ever had more fun drinking. Cheers Terrapin and Schmaltz!

Poured into standard pint glass. Dark brown with hints of red. Slight beige head. No real lacing. Huge cinnamon nose. Sweet & spicy.

Medium mouthfeel. Good carbonation level. Slightly sweet on the tongue, then gives way to dry finish from chocolate and cinnamon. Vanilla is hidden, but comes out as the beer warms.

A very solid, drinkable brown ale

Poured from a 22oz bottle into a Sam Adams perfect pint.

This guy pours out brown with a small head. The aroma is very sweet, with chocolate, vanilla and cinnamon being focal points. The taste is smooth and sweet, with vanilla and cinnamon washing over the tongue quickly. Sweet and delicious, a great dessert beer. The mouthfeel is lighter and well-carbonated, and the drinkability is good. Overall, this is a solid sweet brown. It's not going to blow minds, but it's tasty.

Half finger head on a hazy amber brown body with nice lacing. Aroma of molasses, slight smokey note, cinnamon, brown sugar and very sweet caramel. Caramel malt base with a bitter nd sweet flavor to it which is well balanced. Musty and earthy hops and mild dark fruit notes and spices. Medium body and moderate carbonation with a semi dry finish. Very complex brew. Defenitly not your typical brown.

Appearance: Dark/reddish brown color with not much lacing on the glass

Aroma: Vanilla creamy smell, cinnamon, spices

Taste: I picked up on a mixture of caramel, nutmeg, vanilla... it was a culmination of creamy and spicy flavors. Taste is very similar to the aroma here

Mouthfeel: Lighter mouthfeel than I expected; I would categorize it as light to medium

Drinkability: Decent drinkability, but wouldn't drink more than one or two because of its creamy character

Overall: Different than most other beers I've tried of this style and I really enjoyed the interesting blend of flavors

"Dark Imperial Ale Brewed with Cocoa Nibs, Cinnamon, Vanilla, and Natural Flavors"
8% Abv, brown and yellow label.

Medium-dark brown on the pour, very dark grown in the glass with a huge fluffy head. Tons of lacing as this one goes down the glass.

Aroma is very sweet and noticeably spiced. Cinnamon and caramel.

Flavor is big and complex. Very malty, low to no hop presence. Sweeter than average and just short of overdoing it. Don't pick out the chocolate, mostly the vanilla and cinnamon, but it all blends together very nicely. The flavor lingers around for quite a while which is appreciated.

Mouthfeel is smooth and creamy, body is just right. Docking its score just a little because the alcohol heat comes through too much for an 8% beer.

Reunion 2012 would be perfect in the middle of winter. A little less heat and sweetness would notch this up a bit. I'd also prefer more chocolate and less cinnamon but I think they accomplished what they are going for with the balance as is.

Thanks to jtd1969 for sharing this bottle at our last brewing session.

A - dark amber with a thin brown head that has decent retention

S - the cocoa is up front with some underlying cinnamon

T - chocolate, big cinnamon, faint sweet vanilla, a bit earthy, maybe some woodiness

M - medium bodied, good carbonation

I enjoyed this beer. It was a bit hot out for a spiced beer like this but I enjoyed it nonetheless. The flavor was balanced and on point. The cocoa and cinnamon really shine through and the vanilla adds a nice, sweet finish. Well done.
