Poured from a 12 oz bottle into a Riedel tulip glass. The liquid is a dark, mostly opaque, amber with some nice red hues when the light hits it. A pretty small off-white head comes up after the pour, but fades to a film pretty quickly.

Smell is warm, toasted rye playing nicely with the cat-pee & onion aromas from the mosaic hops. Not a ton of hop presence on the aroma, but I feel like I can never really smell mosaic hops that much anyway.

Taste is sweet, grainy, spicy rye at first. At mid-palate the hops begin to assert themselves with some onion-grass flavor, and then by the swallow the mosaic hops really steal the show. The rye makes a tiny comeback on the aftertaste, but even that is dominated by the mosaic hops. Nicely choreographed from start to end of the sip.

Mouthfeel is relatively thin, and highly carbonated.

Overall, it's pretty good, and I'd drink it again, but I may not necessarily pick up a 4-pack every year. I know it's supposed to be a single-hop ale and all, but I feel like some citrusy hops would have rounded out the flavor nicely.

Pours a very dark hazy copper color with mahogany edges and a half finger off-white head that slowly settles into a thin, lasting ring. Decent retention leaving sporadic streaks of lacing behind.

Slightly earthy floral hop aroma with spicy rye and a prominent sweet malt backbone. The peppery rye sweet malt presence unfortunately overpower the hops. Strong rye character along with caramel, toffee hazelnut and dark fruit sweetness. Subtle earthy pine character but there is also some citrus/topical fruit sweetness as it opens with hints of melon and grapefruit. Smells decent enough for a hoppy beer that focuses on a particular variety, but it's too malty overshadowing the more interesting characteristics.

Chewy full body with a blast of dry, earthy hop bitterness that compliments the strong peppery rye flavors. The bitterness and peppery spice linger over the sweet malt backbone into a dry finish. Again, the rye and malts are prominent but they don't overwhelm the hop profile like in the nose. Plenty of dank resins, earthy pine and spruce tip along with subtle tropical fruit sweetness. A bit more grapefruit than in the arom as well as some tart citrus peel. Peppery rye is most prominent flavor lingering over a sweet caramel backbone with hints of toffee, toasted bread and hazelnut. Easy to drink with more hop character than expected but it's still a bit one dimensional and overpowered by the rye and dark malt sweetness.

12oz bottle poured into a snifter. Enjoy by the third week of July in 2014.

A: Pours a clear deep red with a white head on top. Spots of lacing on the sides of the glass as the head dissipates in a minute or so.

S: Up front malty rye blended nicely with a the tropical nose of mosaic hops. Pretty tropical nose on this one.

T: Nice balance in this beer, a blend of tropical fruits and a hint of spice from the rye. The bitterness of the hops is harnessed by the malt backbone so it never overwhelms. Real clean flavor on this one.

M: Medium body with ample carbonation. For an IPA is has a fairly clean finish with no unwanted stickiness from the hops.

Overall I'm a huge fan of rye malts and mosaic hops so I went into this with some high expectations. It is a very solid beer that I could drink all night.

650 mL bottle poured into a snifter.

Appearance - Red body. Clear. Off white head. Not much left after a while. Thin collar.

Smell - Grapefruit, citrus, pine. Nutty malts.

Taste - Bright and citrusy. Nutty malt. Tastes like rye a bit. Slight bitterness.

Mouthfeel - Too thin. Surprising for the malt taste. Medium carbonation.

Overall - Really nice hop flavor. Enough malt to keep it interesting, but a bit more depth to the malt flavor would be nice.

A cloudy amber/red color with a thin line of bubbles on top. A little bit of lacing on the glass.

Sweet toasted malt, caramel, and a big citrus hop aroma. A touch of alcohol in the nose too.

Sweet toasted malty flavor up front along with a peppery taste and fresh citrus hop and a bit of pine. There is a tart fruity sense to the beer. Finishes clean with a lingering citrus hop flavor and a touch of bitterness.

Medium body with good carbonation. Good finish that leaves a fresh clean feel.

More for the hopheads out there than those that prefer red ales. Good clean hoppy beer.

Serving type: 12oz bottle poured into a pint glass. No freshness date.

Appearance: Pours a once inch head, dissapates fairly quickly, decent lacing. The beer is a deep red-brown, typical of ryes.

Smell: Malt sweetness, some spicyness from the rye, citrusy hops. Very pleasant smelling beer.

Taste: Right in line with how it smells. Bitter hop bite right up front, some spicyness soon after, and a bit of malt sweetness and grainy aftertaste that lingers. A very nice tasting beer. Alcohol is well hidden.

Mouthfeel: On the thin side, well carbonated and refreshing.

Overall: Another great offering from Terrapin. This is an excellent interpretation of a Rye IPA and highly recommended! This is on par with Founders Red Rye and may even be easier to drink. Give it a try.

On tap at Kickbacks in Jax. Poured into a Unibroue snifter. Dark, deep copper body, beige head, moderate retention. Mostly clear, sticky lacing. Aroma dominated by fresh, piney hops with some background caramel malt sweetness. Taste is intensely bittered, mainly grapefruit, pine and grass. I assume this is the Mosaic hop being showcased and it is delicious.

A: great amber mahogany color but very little head. Nice lacing coats the glass well

S: smells great! Big citrus upfront with orange and grapefruit. Splash of melon melds great with a malty caramelly sweetness. Touch of a more vibrant grain from the rye I assume. Nice cooling mint like astringency

T: With all those smells the taste comes off super clean. Very nicely balanced. The malt from the amber base gives just enough sweetness to compete with the mosaic hops. The bitterness is a little muted compared to the smell, although, in no way is it not hopped enough. Real light orange almost apricot is first then gives way to a more pine resin bitter then actually has a lingering citrus finish.

M: nice slick mouthfeel, which I enjoy with hoppy beers so it stays drinkable without food. What I really like is the slick gives way and finishes clean with that it burst of carbonation giving a helping hand

O: a nice enjoyable brew. This has been one of the best of the side project series especially of late. Real nice aroma, pretty nice taste and good finish. I'd for sure go for this again if available. Worth trying
