I've had many disappointing dubbels before. Add this one to the list.

I aged it since 2015. It pours pretty flat, with lots of fine suspended bubbles (or mostly Dead stuff) that clear up. The aroma is nice. The taste and mouthfeel are not what you would hope. The bottle didn't survive and improve.

Not recommend, but you'll never find it anyway.

I drank this Celebration Dubbel from Rockmill last night and I loved it (It can’t be retired). A friend of mine recently sent it to me from Ohio.

(L) The color is hazy brown/amber with a very thin white head.

(A) I picked up an aroma of whiskey and fruit.

(T) The taste was oaky, dark fruit, a bit sour, and a lot of whiskey. It was really wonderful.

(F) Light body, a tad watery, but overall easy drinking (and dangerous).

I'm not a huge fan of dubbels, but I think the barrel aging is done beautifully. It's balanced towards the vanilla and oaky tannins of the wood, but the dark plummy fruits of the dubbel still make a strong appearance. Incredibly smooth. Slight sour acetic whiff on the nose and a slight tang on the finish. Light bodied only seems fuller from the low carbonation. This is

The whiskey barrel ageing is very present in presentation and the finish. Not as robust as bourbon barrel ales, so if you prefer more subtle tones, it will appease. Can't say that it justifies the premium price. Rockmill has a lot more dubbel offerings, for a lower price tag.

Quick notes:

The barrel comes through fairly strong, with tangy oak and whiskey notes up front and throughout. The Dubbel flavor is rather overwhelmed, but not in a bad way, actually.

Slightly hot mouthfeel. Almost no visual carbonation, but it has plenty of liveliness in the mouth.
