75 cl

Pours jet black, no head.

Smells of rich toffee, caramel, fig, and tobacco.

Tastes of caramel, fig, vanilla, walnut, mesquite, tobacco, molasses and oak. Whiskey tinge in the finish.

Full body, syrupy, with a sting of carbonation on the tongue and booze warmth going down.

Very rich, almost cloying, exceptionally layered. Not for everyone, but for fans of old ales and English BWs, this is a must try.

750 ml bottle, dated July 2015 served in a tulip.
Pitch black, thin brown head, fine lacing.
The smell is malt and whiskey.
Complex malt, possibly some coffee. Very nice whiskey finish.
Medium body, little carbonation, goes down easily.
I'm not sure where the saison is. Middle West Spirits and Rockmill are both reliable winners. They got the whiskey influence on this beer just right.

A very interesting brew. Going in (partly based on the name) I thought this was going to be a dark saison aged in pinot noir barrels. It has a color somewhere between dark grape and black. And the smell is dark grapes.

Then comes the taste. It starts as dark grapes, but only briefly. Then comes the whiskey! A sweet, honey, boggy, mossy, peat burn down the throat, finishing long. But a good burn. Has a thicker body than I was expecting. Not much carbonation on the pour, but a decent tingle on the tongue.

I don't really get the crisp, earthy, farmhouse qualities or any funk - besides the grapes - but this is a unique, distinctive, tasty brew I would definitely get again.

750ml bottle dated 7/9/15 poured into a tulip
A: Dark brown, almost pitch black with a one-finger latte colored head that slowly settles
S: Dark malt, Belgian yeast, cocoa, cherries and a bit of whiskey. Very complex
T: Dark malt, cherry, whiskey, cocoa, a bit of alcohol & oak
M: Full-bodied, light carbonation but noticeable booze
O: This is very complex and quite enjoyable. The only downside is the noticeable alcohol on the mouthfeel

750 ml caged and corked bottle, back label stamped with 070915, however this brew was released in November 2015 so I'm not exactly sure how old this bottle is. Served in a Prairie Teku, the beer pours dark brown with about a quarter inch tan head. Head retention is decent, and there isn't very much lacing. Aroma is nice and mostly sweet, the brew smells like chocolate, whiskey, vanilla, and dark fruit (cherries, plums). I think the taste is pretty much just like the aroma, but there's also some roastiness, coffee, wood and blackberries noticeable. Mouthfeel/body is medium, it's a bit coating with a low amount of carbonation. I think the barrel aging was good for this beer, I liked the regular Saison Noir a lot and I like this version too. The whiskey flavor is just right, not too strong and not too weak. I wish there was a bit more carbonation, but that's a minor complaint. Overall I thought this was good, definitely worth picking up!

Very dark with a thin brown head. Nice sweet moderate whiskey aroma. It is quite sweet with a taste of dark fruits, cherry, and reminded of a dessert with its creamy mouth feel, sweetness and fruitiness and slight liquor flavor.
