Here's another scenario: you're going out with someone you really want to impress, or maybe the wife refuses to go to another pizza and 69 taps place with sticky elbows to holler over the wall of noise. The Grill is your place. Utterly swanky and refined, not outrageously expensive. It's six bucks for a decent beer with a bowl of tasty bar mix. The food is really good and not all that outrageous either. Been to the Linkery lately?

Beers: Sculpin IPA, Rough Draft Belgian Pale Ale, New English Brown, Stone Pale Ale, Lightning Hefeweizen, Stella. They make a point of having San Diego County beers on tap. More, and decent, beers in bottles.

Not crowded on a Saturday night in summer. The staff would like to be pretentious, but there's just regular folks and eager to please. Nice art everywhere. A permanent jazz guitar guy plays every Friday and Saturday. There's a gas fire outside with the dark trees and the smell of the ocean coming across a million acres of fresh mowed grass. Walk around the romantically-lit grounds with the huge Torrey pines glowing with some soft lights. You are rich and privileged. You can take the dog to Hamilton's some other night.

Summary: This is not a beer bar by any stretch of the imagination. Unless you're coming here to eat, no need to come here.

This entry has me scratching my head. I ate lunch here a few months ago with some customers from a business nearby. As a great place to grab a bite, it fits the bill. The food and service were both very good, although the food leans a bit toward the pricey side. Unless the beer selection has changed remarkably over the last few months, it's like any other golf/resort/spa grill. Other than the Stone IPA (which can be found anywhere in So. Cal) I don't remember any of the other selections. Would I return. Maybe to get something to eat, but never to drink beer. (Note: quality and selection refer to beer only).
