Great little store that can hold it's own directly next to Bevmo. The store is small, and feels pretty cramped as you walk through. It's tends to be pretty busy, too, which doesn't help with that cramped feeling. The selection is great, with a wide range of beers from all over the world. The highlight for me is the multiple offerings from Pretty Things. It's also one of the few stores where I've been able to find Jester King. The guys working there are friendly and always willing to help. Prices seem on par with the other liquor stores in the area. It's a normal stop for me when I'm on the hunt for something new.

Stopped in here for the first time tonight. Definitely won't be the last!

Looking for Alpine? This is your spot! When I was there tonight, they had Pure Hoppiness, Nelson, Duet, Captain Stout, Willy, and Alpine Ale - quite a bit of each, too! I also saw Angel's Share, Batch 23 Damnation, Pliny the Elder, Supplication, Temptation, Coronado Barrel-Aged Barleywine, Barrel-Aged Santa's Little Helper, Older Viscosity, Speedway Stout, Telegraph Reserve Wheat, and others; a pretty nice collection of rare California offerings, to say the least. Plaza Wine & Spirits also has a fantastic line-up of imported beers, including lots of sours and high-end Belgian, UK, and Mikkeller ales. The cashier also told me that they plan to expand their selection soon, and asked me for suggestions. I wrote down "Anything from Cantillon." We'll see if they come through :)

Beer Advocate scores hang below many of the beer bottles, along with (very fair) price tags. Most of the beers aren't refrigerated, which was my only concern with this place.

This ranks up there with the best beer stores in San Diego. Make sure you hit it up if you've got the time!

Definitely the best place to buy beer in the Mira Mesa area, and over the years they've kept getting better. A couple years back BevMo moved next door to them - don't go there; support this local place instead!

They've got about 5-6 coolers devoted to craft & specialty beers. Everything from 6-packs, to bombers, to 750mL bottles. Just a month or two ago they added some shelves with more great beer, and more are coming soon.

While the employees aren't experts in beer, they are super friendly and are always happy to take customer input in their selection of beer. They also tend to ask regulars about their thoughts about new beers they get & try there, in order to make recommendations and choose stock. They really care about their customers and about getting quality beer for them - top notch! (I mean, these guys now stock Rochefort 10 because I asked them for it - amazing!)

They've got a great selection too, of local beers, US craft beers, and quality imports. Locally, alll of the limited release Stone beers seem to be available here (like the collaborations), and they'e got great selections from Ballast Point, AleSmith, Alpine, Pizza Port/Lost Abby (inc. Angel's Share), Karl Strauss, Lightning, etc. They've also got Dogfish Head, Lagunitas, Bear Republic, Rogue, Sierra Nevada, and a ton more US brewers. Internationally, lots of German beers, Unibroue, Rochefort, Chimay, Rodenbach, Belhaven, etc.

Prices are all quite reasonable; generally close to the low averages for the different beers.

Basically, lots and lots of quality beers. And they want to keep improving on the selection & quality. And they've got great service.

Located next to the Mira Mesa BevMo this small liquor store is a gem.  They have a good selection of single beers like Dogfish head, Great Divide and Jolly Pumpkin as well as a nice display in the front with all the new items.  Biggest selection of international singles that I've seen.  They compete with Bevmo so they try to be different by offering more non-local stuff. While I've never tested the owner's knowledge about beer I think he is a really nice guy, always friendly.

If there is any gripe I have about them is that their hoppy beers don't seem to rotate out as often as I'd like and the cooler selection is smallish. Overall really good store.

Update: Quality and frequency of new brews is going up substantially in the past few months. They are up to date on social media. In addition rarer beers are available here but they go really quickly.

A quaint liquor store located next door to a Bevmo. They have many coolers of beer, in addition to both sides of an aisle.

They don't have the biggest selection, but most of the stuff they carry is on the better end of the spectrum. Don't be surprised to find Hair of the Dog and Russian River stuff, in addition to plenty of Older Viscosity and a variety of locals+imports.

The staff is very friendly even if they aren't the most knowledgeable about beer, they still help as much as they can. Very nice people.

Prices are extremely reasonable, especially compared to other places that carry similar products.

The Mira Mesa area is odd in that there are fantastic Breweries located near there, but not much in the way of beer bars or bottle shops.

That is, until I found Plaza. They've got about 6 coolers full of craft beer, and another aisle of stuff as well. They don't have the selection of a place like Holiday, or Best Damn Beer Shop, but as a liquor store, it's outstanding.

As said in the other review, the employees aren't beer experts, but they're all about getting you what you want. When Great Divide started distributing to San Diego, I let them know about it. A month later, they've got 4 different bombers of GD in the fridge.

It's also a good place to get limited beers. They usually have some Russian River stuff hidden on a low shelf in the aisle (and they sell Consecration for about 3 bucks less than what I've seen elsewhere.) I picked up bottles of Exponential Hoppiness, Pliny the Elder, etc here. No bottle limits!

They're located right next to a BevMo, which probably sucks for them. But don't give BevMo your cash, chances are that Plaza has everything you need.

Better than average selection. A lot of variety on the shelves, including US breweries as well as imports.

However. Selection is about all this place has going for it. I'm sorry, but they pay no attention to the craft beer they are selling. Perishable IPAs and Pale ales are left out on the shelves. I found a Deschutes Hop Trip in the cooler of which the Best By Date read Jan. 2011 (almost 1 year ago!), Fresh Hop Mirror Pond whose best buy date read 12.11.11 (couple of weeks ago, so the bottle is at least 3-4 months old) and picked up a Firestone Double Jack that was six months old. I fear for the condition of the IPAs and pale ales that have been left on the shelves...

Overall, i will not be going back. And i would especially never buy a bottle that did not have a date on it. I might consider going for bottles that can stand a little extra time on the shelves if i lived a bit closer, but i don't.

Disappointing, the place really has potential.
