Nice selection of beer that is all kept refrigerated (yayyyy)!!!! Problem is not many people are buying certain beers. Why is that a problem, you say? Shouldn't that be a good thing?! Lots of nice IPAs are sitting in their coolers that are wayyyyyyyyyy past their prime dates.

Be sure to double check dates when purchasing something from here.

Oh, their prices are a bit steep as well. I believe Lone Hill Liquor manages the inventory here. Hence the steep prices. I could be wrong though.

Just a short distance from downtown La Verne sits Fairplex Liquor, which shares a small parking with a Mexican joint. Spaces are small in number, though I had several options where I wanted to park my car. It also appears to have a drive in, a concept which I didn't want to taste today. The interior is clean though no frills. All the beer that I saw was refrigerated and stamped with pricetags, two specs I like finding at an "in and out" beer store. The first few doors you'll see will be large and small single bottles of beer. There's another sets of doors with 6 packs. Overall, expect to find names like The Bruery, Firestone, Hangar 24, Rochefort, Troubadour, AleSmith, Kasteel, Orval, Bootlegger's, Ballast Point, Golden Road, Maui, Anchor, Paulaner, Rodenbach. Having a checkout person who noted how good the Parabola is and how I purchased the last bottle is a good sign that there is some beer knowledge here.

Fairplex's biggest issue may be their pricing. Some of the beers are priced in line with what's around, others are much higher than the competition ($9.99 bottle of Rochefort 10, $11.99 six-pack of Paulaner). At least you can actually get that beer here if you choose. Despite that one criticism, Fairplex remains a fine option to look for beer.

Dropped by here today to finally check it out...after all, it's within walking distance from my pad! Picked up a couple Hitachiro Nest beers at about $5.50/12oz bottle.

Selection was solid - nothing totally outstanding, but definitely worthy. The setup is a little odd, with the craft beer bombers on a completely different wall than the craft beer 6 packs, with all the BMC products in between them all. Not a huge deal, just a little awkward.

I don't think the cashier knew much about beer, but she was very nice and personable. And, when I asked, she did say that there have been a lot of people coming in that are pleased with the selection. I talked with Stan from Lone Hill Liquor, and he controls the beer selection at this store as well.

I will definitely come here again, but will likely more often continue to go to Lone Hill.

This place is right next to a local Mexican restaurant that I frequent. I'm always looking for a diamond in the rough sort of liquor store, and to be honest, they take forever on the takeout orders sometimes.

Anyway, I wandered across the parking lot, mostly to just pick up something to drink since I wasn't really interested in having a soda that's mostly ice. I walked in the door and what did I see in the cooler door directly across from me but Speedway Stout, Saison Rue, Stone 14th (this was soon after the release), and several other standby offerings from some good breweries.

Not the biggest selection, maybe four cooler doors, but all nice stuff. Not anything "rare" or anything like that, just some good beers.

Of course, they have the usual tall cans and BMC products that you expect any little liquor store to have.

The service was friendly, though I wasn't in there very long. I didn't get the impression that the girl working there knew much about beer.

I think this store might be owned by the same person that opened the Lone Hill Liquor and Walnut Liquorette stores. I saw a familiar face briefly as I entered, but he went into the back, so I didn't get a chance to ask.
