Meteor PilsMeteor Pils
Notes: Meteor pils is a superior quality beer and the result of a unique know-how. Made in 1927 by Louis Haag and his son Frédéric, its authentic, exclusive recipe is a skilfull combination of nole ingredients, particularly hops from the Czech Republic (Saaz) and Alsace (Strisselspalt). Its pale yellow colour is crowded by an abundant, airy head that holds out the promis of great finesse. Particularly light and sparking, it gradually asserts its smooth bitterness before opening up it rich, floral aromas and offering an intense freshness.

It received the golden medal of the competition "Mondial de la Bière Europe de Mulhouse" in September 2014.

330ml bottle from Beers of Europe:
Very light golden & very clear with a thin white surface lacing that holds surprisingly well without breaking up any. Pale malts & skunky notes kick things off with hay & basic adjuncts that aren't the best. The taste is a poor one with an initial lager malt bitterness, cheap adjuncts & hay with some earthy hops bit it's quite a harsh beer with a light body & plenty of carbonation but it's clean at least.

Clear golden body with a thin white ring and lacing. Smells grainy with grassy hops, honey, and malty, but all lightly so. The taste is also pretty light, with pilsner malt, honey, grains, grassy and herbal hops, flowers, and biscuit. All very clean and crisp in the feel. Don't understand the hate, a fine pilsner though on the lighter side. Goes great with french cuisine

Golden color with a thick two finger head with decent retention.
Aroma with notes of floral and Alsatian hops, pale malt and grains.
Flavor with notes of grassy and spicy hops, malt juice, grains and a bit of biscuit and paper. Dry and bitter aftertaste.
Light towards medium body with appropriate carbonation.
This is quite decent for an Adjunct Lager. Alsatian and Czech hops are predominating the recipe. It feels fresh, I guess not pasteurizing it was worth it.

Meteor Pils has a medium, white, somewhat creamy head, a mostly clear, golden appearance, some bubbles, and lots of white specks, throughout. Glass lacing is heavy. The aroma bursts out of the bottle- sweet cracker, spicy, floral hops, and cut grass. Taste is sweet biscuit, with grassy and fairly strong hop bitterness. Mouthfeel is light to medium, and Meteor Pils finishes crisp and refreshing.

Nice pils. Very drinkable. Floral mostly the hops are quite dominent. A good summer beer. Had it fresh in Alsace and it was quite enjoyable. I wasn't expecting much from this beer but it's not bad at all

Served in a Meteor pint glass, on tap in a bar in France.

Appearance: Gold, very clear. Decent head which hangs around for a little while, leaving a little lacing.

Smell: Sweet malts, tiny bit of bread there accompanied by grass & corn. Smells similar to a German pilsner.

Taste: Sweet to begin with, hops come through a little spicy and floral. finishes bitter with a touch of sweetness at the back.

Mouth-feel: A typical Pils. Light bodied and easy drinking. Decent carbonation that holds up until the end.

Overall: Nothing really special here but not a bad Pilsner at all. Much much better on tap than out of the bottle and a hell of a lot better than most of the mainstay lagers we get on tap here in the UK.

Bottle from Cora-Forbach. Weak taste, musty smell and watery mouth feel add up to a less than perfect pale lager. Thumbs down....should not be calling this a pils

Meteor came as part of a mix pack I bought yesterday. Without further adieu, let's get on to the beer:

Poured into a stange, it pours a crystal-clear yellow with a nice two-finger head. The smell is average with some spicy character to it. Tastes like a German pilsner, but a little thinner. Sweet malt makes its enterence before a dumbed-down spicy hop flavor intervenes, leaving a grassy aftertaste. This may be a French take on a pilsner, but that doesn't mean it has to be mediocre.

Yellow-greenish color, quite carbonated. Decent white head. Sticking. Laces.
A quite fresh hop in the smell. Not bad. Some grassy.
Taste too, after all, not bad. Quite bitter, with a bitterness that continues in the aftertaste. Even if not really fresh.
Malty notes.
Quite balanced.
Not unforgettable.

Got this one out of one of those Cost Plus World Market "Beers of the World" variety packs.

A - Very light pale yellow pour with a small white head.
S - Little bit of a corn smell in the nose.
T - Tasted slightly of licorice at first, but as it warmed a bit the taste slide into a sweet subtle honey flavor.
M - Light.
D - Very drinkable. I could knock these back all night.

11.2 oz (?) bottle from a Cost Plus "Beers of the World" gift pack.

When drinking this beer, I thought of the Douglas Adams book "Hitchhiker's Guide to the Universe" and its original description of Earth: "Harmless", or perhaps its revised description: "Mostly Harmless".

This was a slightly murky hazy yellow (aren't pils supposed to be crystal clear?) that is just there. The aroma is light, with lightly sweet bready grains. The flavor is light, watery, clean, refreshing (wait a minute, that's mouthfeel- so where's the flavor?). OK, look harder- light malts and light hops, fortunately none of that Euro hop skunk/sour. Let's look at this positively- it's subtle. Nope, can't do it, it's plain. It's thin. It makes me less thirsty on a hot day.

It's mostly harmless.

Ok, bargain rack at State Line for 99cents, no dating on this one.... hmmm.... I'm always up for an adventure...
Poured out a clear and golden, with a nice thick white head that reduced down to a good thin covering. I wonder if this one was on the bargain rack for a reason, as it has a very skunk scent to it. Maybe a bit of canned corn scent too, if that is not too weird to say? Bit of hay and oatmeal when you sit here sniffing it long enough. The right amount of carbination for the style. Man, I really am trying to think of good things to say. Ok. Tastes like a pilsner, but maybe this one has just went past it's prime. Maybe there is some of those styrian hops that I don't like and that is where the skunkyness is coming from? There is some bitterness, but not in an appealing way, just kinda hits the back sides of your tongue and stays there for a long while. There is a bit of an herbal flavor that I get, that also goes maybe towards medicinal. Like I said, I have to say that this all may be skewed as this one may be old. Can't even finish it.

One of my old favorite back in my CEGEP's years. Nice, lucid and yellow gold color, great carbonizations. A skunky smell, very skunky, but it make you love skunks (that why Pepe is cool !). A good mouthfeel, nothing great, but not bad at all too. The taste is refreshing, light, with no great distinct aromas emerging from that beer. A good beer to drink lightly when you invite friends over.

Very light pale gold color. Medium white foamy head. Aroma is grassy, grainy and sweet. A light bodied pilsner. Malts are fruity and sweet. Very mild slightly spicy hops. Carbonation is very soft. An interesting pilsner, its hoppier than most pilsners and there is a slight vegetative/cardboard flavor that not as unpleasant as it sounds. Smooth taste. It’s a little sweet and there is a slightly unpleasant aftertaste, but it still drinkable. Mouthfeel is full. Finish is clean. Aftertaste is slightly sweet

Pours a yellow, slightly hazy color with a nice head. That's as far as I got. First taste was thin, almost light beer like. Second taste was a bit better, weak though, and not a very exciting finish. Actually left a bad after taste. Not impressed.

Clear, straw gold in color with a bright white head that holds well and falls to a good collar but leaves no lace. The aroma is of grainy malt and some herbal and lightly resiny hops. The body is medium with a moderate carbonation and the mouthfeel is lightly crisp. The flavor mirrors the aroma with a good deal of herbal hop flavor - grassy, resiny, lightly pine-like - actually very much like dried pine needles! This is much more of a German style, rather than Bohemian pilsener, but it seems to fall oddly in between, lacking in the solid hop flavor and bitterness of the German style. The finish is dry with a lingering hoppiness. A very nice beer, but there are better ones available for less money. Still, it's somewhat interesting in that it's slightly different.
