2012 Project

Long-time want. Poured it into a Rodenbach Grand Cru tulip.

Dark ruby-garnet with not much light passing through. Bountiful head of three fingers' height. Not much lacing, but I think it looks tremendous for a Flanders Red.

Tart pie cherries up front, bright sourness, oaky vanilla, sour mash malts, hints of tart berry and pomegranate. Lots of critter funk, cheese, and dank mustiness behind the eye-popping acidity.

A more sour and drier Flanders Red with a lot of pie cherry tartness and a seriously acidic spine. Has that lambic cheesiness with the malt strength and acetic quality of a Flanders ale. Oaky, but not astringent. Unripe raspberry, pomegranate seed, and almost a spicy basil greenness. Lots of tart fruit and gritty funk. Puckering mouthfeel with a spicy sour finish/burn. Swishy and a carbonated appropriately. Awesome experience, overall.

My first time really delving into a sour ale and after hearing good things about Cascade's Kriek Ale I decided to give it a try.

Appearance: Pores a dark Cherry wood color, looking closely you can see a good amount of sediment floating around. Thick, frothy head.

Smell: Cherry! Lot's of cherry and some other floral notes that aren't too easy to pick out because of the dominant cherry smell.

Taste: Definitely a burst of sour cherries. Has a taste to that of the old school candy War Heads sour cherry mixed with a slight hint of alcohol.

Mouthfeel: Smooth on the palate with a good amount of carbonation.

Overall: A solid brew for sure. Digging the sour style, very pleasing on the palate and looking forward to trying some more of this style.
