Style: American Wild Ale

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 8.50%

Availability: Rotating

Notes / Commercial Description:
This NW style sour blond ale was barrel aged for up to nine months, then aged on fresh apricot for an additional six months. Aromas of sweet apricot blossoms and tart fruit are present as you draw the glass near. Deep, rich apricot flesh, then tart apricot notes dance on the palate and lead to a sweet apricot flesh finish with a lingering fruit tartness.

Transparent straw yellow brew, filled with action; big cloudy, meringue-like head. Great retention and tons of lacing left behind. Looks almost like apple juice with an incredible head of foam.

Aroma is surprisingly funky at first, settling into a sour, tart, fruity, oak blend. Vinegar, hay, lemons, yeast.

Flavor is a little lighter and fruitier than the aroma; it's tart, but nowhere near as much as the nose indicates. Quite a bit more fruit on the second half, as well. Apples and pears; apricots; lemons; overripe peaches. Still a touch rustic and musty.

Significant puckering; slick and sticky and oily; long, tart finish.

2014 -- Draft, Oct. 2015

A: Slightly under-ripe apricot fruit aroma up front with some tartness in the background.

A: light golden color, slightly hazy with light ring of head.

T: Complex and slightly under-ripe apricot flesh flavors, very clean and enjoyable. Strong lingering fruit tartness.

M: Light bodied with light carbonation.

O: One of my all-time favorites from Cascade, very enjoyable and refreshing. A year of aging has mellowed the slight sour sharpness.

Poured from a 750ml bottle (2012 project) into a tulip and let warm up to 40°F until reviewing.
LOOK: Pours with a quarter's worth of white foam that shrivels into a line within 15 seconds. Pale orange in color with an extreme amount of cloudiness. Rising bubbles are medium in size and low in quantity. Lacing is hardly existent.
SMELL: Has strong aromas of sour yeast that combine with mild aromas of oak, hay, and apricot.
TASTE: Very strong sour yeast flavors are up front. Mild oak and subtle hay flavors enter immediately after along with hints of apricot.
FEEL: Somewhere between light-bodied and medium-bodied. Moderately carbonated. Very tart. Goes down somewhat rough and finishes with a moderate dryness.
NOTE: Where were the apricots? Was it because this bottle was aged too long?

Apricot 2014, served in a sampler at Cascade Barrel House.

Hazy yellow gold. Fine silky head. Little carbonation. Smell is stone fruit tartness.

Taste is super tart with an impressively apricot flavor that builds and clarifies into a more and more apricotty flavor.

Mouthfeel is dry and light. Overall, very good. Especially if you love apricots.

On tap at Cascade's Barrel House tasting room. This was listed at a 2014 project with an ABV of 7.6%. Attractive pour— golden color with a white foam.

Sharp and light bodied. Fragrant with fruit but just faintly of apricot. Tart but also has a slight mellow grainy note. I'm happy to taste this on tap from the barrel, but the 750 ml bottle seems like a major investment for way too much of this stuff. But a small glass is quite sippable.
