Style: American Wild Ale

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 8.50%

Notes / Commercial Description:
This NW style sour blond ale was barrel aged for up to nine months, then aged on fresh apricot for an additional six months. Aromas of sweet apricot blossoms and tart fruit are present as you draw the glass near. Deep, rich apricot flesh, then tart apricot notes dance on the palate and lead to a sweet apricot flesh finish with a lingering fruit tartness.

Apricot 2014, served in a sampler at Cascade Barrel House.

Hazy yellow gold. Fine silky head. Little carbonation. Smell is stone fruit tartness.

Taste is super tart with an impressively apricot flavor that builds and clarifies into a more and more apricotty flavor.

Mouthfeel is dry and light. Overall, very good. Especially if you love apricots.

On tap at Cascade's Barrel House tasting room. This was listed at a 2014 project with an ABV of 7.6%. Attractive pour— golden color with a white foam.

Sharp and light bodied. Fragrant with fruit but just faintly of apricot. Tart but also has a slight mellow grainy note. I'm happy to taste this on tap from the barrel, but the 750 ml bottle seems like a major investment for way too much of this stuff. But a small glass is quite sippable.

-spiegelau ipa glass. aged in oak barrels.

A: Apricot orange coloring with a small haze factor, reveals a healthy display of effervesce filling the vessel at a moderate rate. A good initial head formation (rather rare per style), is very well lasting, covering til the end of the drink, lapsing only to a skim chalky white covering. Generous amounts of lace adore the vessel with a near full sheet coating, amplified by stratified rings condescending downward. For this extra consideration.

S: Very nice perfumy tart apricots arrive on the nose. Small funk of tart grape skins with a dry finish. Fairly well lasting. Initial high rate of sourness, but turns very soothing there-after, very clean reception.

T: Acidic, tart apricots, crisp malting, while the oaky character was a bit reserved, or rather hidden behind the sour factor. Flashes of wet fruitiness at first is followed by a gentle lingering tartness off the tongue. Small quick sips have a rather tart and acidic lemony factor, while longer savoring sips reveal the soothing, tart apricot flavor much better.

M: Acidic, tart, mouthful has a very good carbonation rate.

O: A very well crafted sour that is very clean and crisp with a very respectable sour factor for the hard-core, but not intimidating for the part time fan as well. HIgh quality and very good levels of apricots while maintaing drinkability factor, though a bomber did take me a good 45 minutes of consumption, not a bad thing, when you get to savor the funky sourness over a period of time. I am partial to apricots and peaches in such brews as well saisons, which i tend to think works very well to the style and nature of the beers. One last note of consideration, at $35 a bottle the price is a bit steep, i can only recommend for the seasoned veteran of style and with the disposable income to spare, if not consider splitting one with a friend which will take some of the sting from the pocket and add some enjoyment to the experience.
