750mL bottle poured into a tulip. Pours an auburn-brown with an almost nonexistent head that rapidly fades leaving no lacing. Nose is Flanders-Red through and through - lactic acid funk, tart cranberry and sour cherry, with the slightest hint of oak. It's hard not to expect the balsalmic here, given just how truly akin to a Flanders Red this is, and perhaps a hint of that vinegar lingers on the backend. The palate follows the nose: sour cranberry and cherry, with clean lactic acid and oaky undertones. Mouthfeel lands squarely in the medium-thin category, and complements this beer tremendously. Overall, a masterfully crafted sour.

2012 Vintage. Pours from the bottle a murky brownish purple, robust 2" rusty head, strong streaks of lacing as it settles. Nose is dark fruit, strong lactic notes, cherry, stewed prune, roasted malt, charred oak and fruit wood, and light chocolate notes. Flavor holds up remarkably well, particularly as compared to other similarly aged Cascades. Lots of funky vinous notes, but a strong tart fruity backbone to go along with it. A mild sweetness is there as well from the malts. A hint of barrel that imparts some woodsiness on the finish. Mouthfeel is full with mild carbonation. Overall, very impressive given the age on this bottle.

Update: had a fresher, canned version recently. More sour fruit tartness than the aged version, along with sweet red fruit and blueberries. Less oak and barrel as well. Made a great beer to pair with food.

250ml can. Canning date is stamped on can bottom as '05/06/21', "TALK TO ME GOOSE".
Amber brown colored body, with a reddish tint. Thin beige head. Leaves behind strings and spots of lacing.
Aroma is sour, funk, woody, vanilla, with red wine (pinot noir) grapes. Quite complex and lovely.
Taste is tart, red wine like, sweet red grape, woody, barnyard funk leather and tobacco. Blended in the background are berry notes of blueberry, plum, blackberry and apricot. Aftertaste is more sweet with berry and tobacco.
Solid medium mouth feel. Very smooth texture. Okay carbonation.
Strongly acidic but so well blended to include the funk and berry flavors. Shows a mature blending process.

Appearance -The wild ale poured a deep red color, that was almost maroon, with a white head topping the pour.

Smell - The nose was huge tart red grapes with little hint of the booziness to come.

Taste - At the front, the beer was hugely sour. I thought I might not be able to finish this one without Prilosec. However, the profile softens to be almost like a port. As the beer warmed, it mellowed to allow detection of sweetness toward the back.

Mouthfeel - The body allowed the taste profile to longer because it was a chewy sour.

Overall - I am not often able to finish a sour on my own. I finished a full pour of this one.

Muddy, ruddy brown with a fizzy tan head that’s quick to dissipate into a thin crown. Sparse lacing.

Red wine, cherries and cleaning solvent in the nose. A hint of vanilla and oak below.

Super tart cherry face slap taste. Very Flanders-like with strong oak and some vinegar. A bit more of the solvent from the nose. A hint of vanilla again. Semi-dry finish. A little funk shows as it warms. Maybe even a hint of chocolate malt.

Medium bodied with a nice slickness and moderate carbonation.

There’s a lot of great aspects to this beer. The taste has a lot more depth than the cherry-wallop it starts with let on. I would have preferred a little more balance from the start. People into extreme beers will love this. 2017 vintage.
