Cascade NoyauxCascade Noyaux
Notes: This one-of-a-kind NW sour is a blend of Belgian strong blondes aged in white port barrels with raspberries, then blended with select barrels of strong blondes that were aged on the toasted meat from the apricot nut, or Noyeaux.

750ml, caged and corked bottle, @9.29% ABV, from the '2014 Project'. So this thing has apricot pits in it?

This beer pours a somewhat hazy, sediment-strewn medium copper amber colour, with one skinny finger of weakly puffy, kind of foamy, and mostly just creamy dirty white head, which leaves some low-lying storm front lace around the glass as things slowly melt away.

It smells of zesty underripe raspberries, sour white cheesy funk, grainy and lightly crackery pale malt, un-fruity apricot, a touch of wet oak stave, lemon suckers, and a very subtle earthy, musty, and lightly perfumed floral hop bitterness. The taste is rather tart, but still creamed raspberries, some lesser apricot/peach zinginess, steady cheesy and musty funk, a vanilla-laced vinous woodiness, more besieged bready and grainy pale malt, and a sense of musty and floral hops that have taken a half-day at the last possible moment.

The bubbles are adequate in their supportive and once in a while playful frothiness, the body a solid middleweight for the style, and more or less smooth - the inoffensive milkiness of the souring component going a long way here. It finishes just a bit off-dry - some fruity and malty esters providing a last gasp in the face of the lingering and complex tart 'n sour rain.

Overall, a very well-made, and engaging sour ale - the dual fruit adjuncts not yer typical run of the mill additions either. Someone at this brewery has a predilection for old-school European liqueurs (Noyaux, really?), or something. Whatever, this is really, really good, but hardly repeat worthy - not at ~45 bucks a pop around here.

Orange pink body with a quickly receeding white head.

Tart and tangy fruitiness on the nose. Raspberries more specifically.

Makes ya pucker, at least on the first few sips. Fruits pop out, peach and apricot perhaps, raspberry sour. I'd give this a 6.5 on the sour scale.

Medium biting carbonation, medium mouthfeel.

Really like this one, per usual with Cascade. Thanks a bunch 4DAloveofSTOUT!

2011 Vintage.

For me the tartness in this beer overpowered the fruit and wood characteristics. A little disappointing.

Mild sour, some funk, nice blend of apricots and raspberries. The balance is rather good.
