Seems Cascade is really on target with the sours and seriously off the mark with their traditional NW ales. This beer poured a very simple and clear hue, very little head, no lace, very clear. Low aromatics, mostly malt. Very little going on with the palate except some grain like flavor. Short finish, lacks any real hop presence.

Just a simple ale really. Makes me think of what InBev would make a Budweiser Ale taste like.

First had: on tap at Cascade, Portland, OR

Poured a bronzed yellow color, clear, with a frothy white head. Not much in the aroma: basic notes of pale malts and grassy hops. Taste of pale malts, biscuity, with a decent balance of grassy and floral hops. Not bad, but nothing overly distinctive. Light-medium body, and fairly drinkable.

22oz bottle into tulip pint.

Pours a dark yellow, with faint gold hues. It has a frothy white head and rising carbonation. There are a fair amount of particles floating throughout, which holds me back form giving a higher score here.

The aroma is really fairly muted, with very faint hop notes and just some pale and caramel malts coming through.

Again there almost no hops to speak of, with just some pale and biscuity malts. Not very impressive.

The mouthfeel is medium bodied, with good carbonation.

Overall I am pretty disappointed by this beer. I got two bottles and am hoping the other is better but don't have my hopes set too high.

Bottle date: Cascade don't care. 2011

The label calls this "Portland Ale",but everything else matches, so I'm rating here.

A: Pours a brass ale with a single finger of bone white foam which dissipates quickly to a sheet of the same. Excellent clarity and no lacing to speak of.

S: Grass, grain, sweet malts. Nice sweet alfalfa tones. usually anticipate a bit more hop on an APA, maybe a bit of fruit or pine.

T: Alfalfa leads out over light pale malts and plumb into my palate and I struggle to be reminded this is (as the label says) an American Pale Ale; just not much hop going on here.

M: Light bodied with higher carb than typical. Thin slick on my palate.

O: I'm confused about this beer. I would be grading this way up on the scale, if this beer were called a Blonde Ale. I can't see how this is a APA - at 26 IBU's, this SRM and the flavor/nose profile. Not a bad beer by any means, but definitely not up to the style standard.

On tap at the Raccoon Lodge, home of Cascade Brewing. Pours a darker gold with a small bubbly head, and smells mostly of grassy hops and grains. Taste up front is a burst of bitter hops, and followed by a movement of grains, seeds, grasses, and some other pleasant malt flavors. The beer is well balanced, has a nice lighter mouthfeel, and is quite drinkable. It is a bit unique for a pale, and was a crowd pleaser for some of my less beer-geeky friends.

The place I had this at listed it as "PDX Pale". After looking at the other reviews, I think this is the same beer, if not please adjust. Served in straight pint glass. Poured a hazy pale yellow color with about a half-inch of white head that had OK retention and very light lacing.

The aroma was fairly benign and neutral. Just a blend of basic grains and soft hops. Same for the flavor profile, nothing really stood out from the rest. Just a basic "beer" taste.

The body was crisp and clean, and featured a nicely dry finish. Drinkability was OK, and would be better if your in the mood for something that doesn't challenge the palate. Overall, an OKish brew, perhaps a good chore beer. Not really worth seeking out, but probably worth a shot if you see it.

Served out of a growler 30 min from pouring it out of the tap.

appearance - pours with a nice head that settles but leaves retention on the sides of the glass and a couple streaks of lace, clear and yellow with some bright sunshine tones

smell - faint but grassy and earthy hops

taste - earthy/grassy hops, finish lingers a bit

mouthfeel - light/medium body with plenty of carbonation

drinkability - crisp, refreshing, session beer
