A beer first spotted on opening day at the newly-christened Cascade Barrel House, glimpsed elsewhere around town since. This is a 12 oz. glass, poured at Concordia Ale House. Game 1 of the ALDS (Rangers/Rays) in the background.

A: Simply gorgeous pour: a burnished mahogany liquified, crowned with the prettiest half-finger of antique cream. Near-clear complexion with scarce carbonation. The leave-behind from a lovely lid is speckled rings of foam draped up and down the glass.

S: Reasonably strong 'baked rye' moments: a drifting spice, a dark grain, a musty earthiness. Hints of sweetness, citrus.

T: Singed, almost charred, grain that's amply spicy and reveals hints of smoke. Black pepper dust, field green and citrus rind bitterness and plenty of 'rye'. Imagine that: 'rye' flavors in a rye beer! Don't know what I'm referring to? Try this one.

M: Crisp feel, medium body, savory and juicy finish. The saliva really gets worked up here: a dryness and tang that sings, a mild tongue-coating that reminds of the flavor many minutes after.

D: Sip-worthy, if not quaffable. A rather intense flavor impedes progress a little, but that same flavor keeps me returning to the glass. Enjoy this one if you can; it's a nice example of rye-meets-IPA (tho' do we hafta keep doing this 'RyePA' mashup?), recommended and certainly worth having again.

A: Poured a nice mahogany color with good carbonation leaving a nice white cap and bubbles

S: Some rye, fruitiness but thats about all.

T: A fruit rye combo, with some hints at toasted grains, caramel

M: Not really crisp or even hop forward, sordove tame on rye, hops and the mouthfeel was ok, like the mouthfeel

D: Not one of the best Rye IPAs I have had, average drink.
