Notes / Commercial Description:
"This is a blend of spiced Quads that was aged in Makers Mark Barrels for over 12 months. Bing cherries from the Kriek blend was added to balance the spice, and Summer Gose to give a little brightness. You'll notice light bourbon and subtle spice on the nose. Sweet bourbon and cherry on the palate give way to a soft hint of lemon in the finish." -Cascade Barrel House."

Served live from the barrel at the Barrel House 3/2/11. Poured into a snifter.

A: Poured a Apricot brown, with orange hues and was very hazy. The pour came with tons of head. I sat there and watched the bartender pour from the barrel. Took about 5 minutes before she could hand over the glass to make sure it was properly filled to the correct amount because of the amount of the head produced. The head was a creamy off white that left a great amount of lacing down the glass.

S: Had quite abit of funkiness at a first whif, probably due to the bourbon and cherries. Bourbon notes were very subtle along with some vanila. The cherry aroma is there but not over powering at all. Has a spicy character along with a slight, but mellow lemon zest appeal going on. Dark fruits a present but masked pretty well by the cherries and bourbon.

T: There is no flavors that are really sticking out in the beer, everything seems to flow nicely together. Up front you get cherries combined with currants and dates. About mid way through comes the spice then bourbon and vanila. The beer finishes brilliantly with a very calm, not over the top lemon flavor. Everything in the beer is soft but yet complex. It was a real test on the palate to pick apart the beer and describe what you were tasting.

M: Medium and creamy. The carbonation in the beer was steady and joyful. And the alcohol? Supposedly this beer is suppose to be a 9.75% ABV, it drank like it was 4.5%abv. Alcohol very well masked.

O: Drinkability is through the roof with this beer. The flavors are mild enough to not destroy the palate, and the alcohol is insanely well hidden for how high the ABV is. Great adaptation of my favorite beer, the Quadruple. Cascade does an awesome job taking a traditional Belgian beer and putting an American spin on it, something many brewerys across the US seem to have a problem with.
