Have tried a number of IPA's from Cascade over the years, and have come to the conclusion that they are just not very good at making them. Obviously, they do a great job with their barrel aged wild ales, some of their saisons and goses, but their IPA's tend to suck. This was another example, and I was just glad that I got only a small, sample size portion at the Bier Stein last night.

The beer is overly sweet and malty, with a nearly over powering sweet orange flavor. There's some bitterness in the finish, but it wasn't nearly sufficient to bouy the malty sweetness in this beer. Alcohol was fairly high anyway (in the 9% range if memory serves), so to no great surprise, the beer came across as a bit boozy, which I attribute to the inordinate sweet malty flavor in the beer.

Obviously, will not be ordering this again.

Served in bubble pint glass. Poured a clean, clear orange-gold color with a very low, white head that had low retention and moderate lacing.

The aroma was dominantly citrus and fruit hops, with just enough malt in the background to notice. The flavors were good, sharp, tart and citrusy with just enough malt to support everything well.

The body was typical for the style, not light, not full. Drinkability was good, I had a second one a bit later on to cleanse away the taste of another beer that I didn't care for.

Overall, a little beer. Try it if you see it, and perhaps worth a bit of effort to try.

A: Poured a deep orange color, like a burnt orange with a gold chain of hiughlights

S: Living upo to its name, citrus but not to much. I had to kick the sniffer into overdrive to get a lot

T: The beer was a bit syrupy, hops were reaslly lost in the midst of malts, nothing crisp or refreshing about it. Some hop bite but tame.

O: Pretty unsatisfied. After about six sips I already wanted to move on. Not your West Coast or traditional NW IPA. I actually thought it was a hybrid of ENglish and American.
