Style: American Wild Ale

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 8.00%

Availability: Rotating

Notes / Commercial Description:
This NW style sour wheat ale was barrel aged for up to 12 months with cranberries, orange peel and cinnamon. Soft aromas of cranberries and light floral notes start this beer off. Tart, dry notes of sweet cranberries with hints of wild strawberries on the palate give way to a pronounced dryness and a lingering finish of cranberries and spice.

750 mL bottle poured into a snifter.

Appearance - Hazy red body. White head. Good retention.

Smell - Bubble gum. Some fuzziness. Like alpaca wool left out in the rain. Berry aroma.

Taste - Berry. Grainy. Bubble gummy again. Wheaty. Mildly sour.

Mouthfeel - Medium body. Well carbonated.

Overall - Weird. And not very good.

The second Cascade sour I've had that I didn't enjoy (the other being Vine). A lot of tartness from the Cranberry but I didn't enjoy the flavors from it. That said, I think canned Cranberry sauce is better than fresh, so maybe I just don't like Cranberry.

This would benefit from aging. 2014 vintage. I will not try anything sooner

Surprised -- Looks like sherry in the glass. Expected something several shades darker.

Love this brewery. Will do backflips when I see something new from them.

Aroma is sharp. Smell the alcohol right away, plus a tease of that famous cascade lacto culture. Also bubble gum. Like opening a bag of big league chew. Which is kinda awesome.

Taste is almost medicinal. Really sharp lacto bite followed by equally tart cranberry snap. Then you get a front row seat to the battle between orange and cinnamon. Spoiler alert -- nobody wins.

Also -- at 8%. It's waaaay too boozy. Ok. It's on the bottle so it's my bad but this is winter Warmer duvell level strength. Not cool.

Interesting but not my favorite from cascade. Glad I tried it all the same.

Murky rosy color. Small-ish head. Some yeast sediment. Smell is bretty and vaguely fruity. Moderate sourness. Subtle berry notes. OK. Not worth the money, though.

One of the cheaper Cascade offerings in a bottle, but nonetheless still expensive and higher than your average wild ale price.

Anyways, this one comes in yellow but with streaks of red blended throughout that yellow amounting to an amber like pour with a soft 1/6" white head that falls off quickly. Aroma was soft wheat, cranberry and cherry with some oak.

Taste, seemed like cranberry one dimensional sour. There was a little bit of wheat, cinnamon and strawberry to it. Very acidic. I mean, it has the usual lactic sour notes that almost all Cascades bring to the table.

Ultimately this one isn't worth the price of admission, glad I drank it on tap instead of just getting a bottle, $20 = too expensive.
