Style: American Wild Ale

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 8.00%

Availability: Rotating

Notes / Commercial Description:
This NW style sour wheat ale was barrel aged for up to 12 months with cranberries, orange peel and cinnamon. Soft aromas of cranberries and light floral notes start this beer off. Tart, dry notes of sweet cranberries with hints of wild strawberries on the palate give way to a pronounced dryness and a lingering finish of cranberries and spice.

Thanks to hopodyssey for sharing this one at Retsinis' tasting.

2014 project.

Pours a murky light orange-red with a foamy off-white head that settles to wisps of film on top of the beer. Small dots of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is sour with grain, fruit, cranberry juice, and acidic aromas. Taste is much the same with sour fruit, citrus zest, spice, and acidic flavors on the finish. There is a mild amount of acidity on the palate with each sip. This beer has a good level of carbonation with a crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a good beer that is tasty and easy to drink.

well this sure feels like the holidays! a hazy pink brew, thick looking and really alive with the head. smells awesome, tart cranberry, a ton of lactic sourness that makes me throw my head back like smelling salts, and a cool but very moderate spice profile. the cinnamon is not that obvious in nose or taste, and in fact, the fruit stands up by far the most. all the other special ingredients exist purely to compliment it. in the way that the elderberry felt a little overspiced, this one seems to correct for it, hardly there at all except for the finish. i love the tartness of the berries and the acidity of the beer, it will tear up an empty stomach and is awfully sour, but it really does work in this beer. i like the density too, yeast and protein left over in here, gives the beer a richer feel, more regal, more winter, more holiday, its brilliant. creamy almost for how acidic it is, a neat and unique vibe for sure. had this one on tap at road 34 in fort collins. you have to love great american beer fest week! heady beer everywhere, and this one might be the best beer i drink all week, stunning stuff!

A: The beer is hazy yellowish red in color. It poured with a quarter finger high white head that died down, leaving a thin layer of bubbles on the surface and a collar around the edge of the glass.
S: Light to moderate aromas of funk, sourness, oak, and cranberries are present in the nose.
T: The taste follows the smell, having flavors of oaky wood and cranberries along with slight hints of cinnamon. The spices become a bit stronger as the beer warms up.
M: It feels light- to medium-bodied and somewhat tart and acidic on the palate with a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This beer has pleasant amounts of sourness along with notes of cranberries.

750ml, caged and corked 2015 bottle, @ 6.9% ABV - man, these large-format, barrel-aged American brews are really getting dear in price for we Canuckian brew lovers. Sigh.

This beer pours a murky, medium orange-brick amber colour, with one chubby finger of mildly puffy, finely foamy, and somewhat creamy off-white head, which leaves some iceberg shelf painted lace around the glass as it lazily seeps away.

It smells of tart canned cranberries, slightly soured milk, soft barrel notes (sodden wood, vanilla, and a touch of indistinct booze), a pleasantly subtle Brett funkiness, some zesty earthy spice, and a plain grainy and wheaty malt sweetness. The taste is fermenting cranberries, spoiling milk, more mixed berry fruitiness, a growing pale and wheaty maltiness, some reduced white cheesy funk, steady wet wood and corrupted vanilla barrel essences, emerging cinnamon and clove spice, and understated earthy and weedy hop bitters.

The bubbles are sort of active in their palate-lifting frothiness, the body a solid middleweight, and way more smooth than I had been anticipating, with a small airy creaminess evolving as things warm up a bit. It finishes off-dry, just, as that lingering berry thing holds on to some of its inherent sweetness.

Overall, an interesting example of what can occur when so many factors are at play. I was expecting an enamel scorcher here, as cranberries are not exactly one of your sweeter fruits - however, their effect here seems to have been duly integrated with the oak and funk attributes, and to the benefit of the whole, I might add. Good stuff, just not all that affordable in the current fiduciary climate.

750 ml bottle into tulip glass; 2015 vintage bottling, 6.9%. Pours hazy orange/amber/light pink color with a 2 finger dense and fluffy light pink head with fantastic retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice dense soapy lacing clings down the glass, with a moderate amount of streaming carbonation retaining the cap. Fantastic appearance. Aromas of big sour lemon, lime, cranberry, strawberry, green apple, white wine, orange peel, cinnamon, hay, straw, leather, oak, pepper, wheat, cracker, light white vinegar/vanilla, and yeast/oak earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of fruity/funky/acidic yeast, cranberry/spices, oak, and moderate pale malt notes; with great strength. Taste of big sour lemon, lime, cranberry, strawberry, green apple, white wine, orange peel, cinnamon, hay, straw, leather, oak, pepper, wheat, cracker, light white vinegar/vanilla, and yeast/oak earthiness. Moderate tart/sourness and yeast/tannic oak spiciness on the finish; with lingering notes of sour lemon, lime, cranberry, strawberry, green apple, white wine, orange peel, cinnamon, hay, straw, leather, oak, pepper, and yeast/oak earthiness on the finish for a while. Fantastic complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/funky/acidic yeast, cranberry/spices, oak, and moderate pale malt flavors; with a great malt/sourness balance, and zero astringent/puckering flavors after the finish. Moderate dryness from carbonation and acidity. Medium-high carbonation and medium body; with a very smooth, crisp, moderately acidic/tannic, and fairly grainy balanced mouthfeel that is awesome. Zero warming alcohol for 6.9%. Overall this is an outstanding fruited sour ale! All around awesome complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/funky/acidic yeast, cranberry/spices, oak, and moderate pale malt flavors; very smooth, crisp, and easy to drink with the moderate acidity. A highly enjoyable offering.

Tap at the Cascade Barrel Room.

Fluffy foamy head, semi clear nice color, honey orange to slight pinkish red transition, nice lacing.

Nose big tart cranberry, fresh tart berries, fermented cranberry juice, bright funk, Brett blends nicely with tart berry.

Taste more fresh cranberry, tart funky berry and Brett funk, hint cheesy funk, tart fermented berries, touch of oak I think, faint citrus, nice holiday cocktail flavor. Finish mild sticky flemmy, lingering tart funk and berry.

Mouth med to lighter bod, dec carb, touch flemmy very tart.
