I had this beer on-tap in a half liter chalice at Elliott Bay Pizza & Subs in Mill Creek, WA.

Appearance: rich amber orange with plenty of haze and a nice head of lightly orange foam.

Smell: big, sweet malt with a good citrusy hop character. Nice.

Taste: rich malt flavor with a complex arrangement of hops: citrusy, dank, fruity and above all quite bitter. An interesting and tasty beer.

Mouthfeel: medium-thick body with a moderate carbonation and lots of smooth creaminess. I like it a lot.

Overall: a very good beer indeed. I'll definitely have it again.

Among the wilds, the barrel-aged and the spontaneously fermented, Cascade has some surprising forays into other genres. This is the departure I tried at their barrel room in Portland, OR. This batch was labelled 7.85% ABV.

Pours an orange-amber hue with very solid and light-capturing haze. Weight is pretty solid. Head is a wild, windswept white that leaves some solid sheeting lacing where it blows. Fine carbonation, although it's hard to tell for sure with the haze. Overall, it looks really great.

Only mild hoppiness on the nose, but pleasant nonetheless. Slight organic grassy notes mingle with a hint of fresh cherry and some light, malty grain. It's solid, if not groundbreaking.

Clean, bright and spicy entry promises much on the palate, but it disappointingly falls away to a rather thin, reedy mid-palate. There's not much malt to speak of, and this leaves the finish bone-dry, and vulnerable to the grassy clinging bitterness of the hops. Feel is light as well, as a result, but the hop bitterness packs a punch.

Overall, it's not a bad brew. It's a little unbalanced, which is my only real concern. Otherwise, it's a solid, if somewhat pedestrian IPA.

A: Poured a lightly clouded deep orangish brown color with crimson hues, a medium dirty white cap which left some decent lacing clinging to the glass after it warmed up a little bit. Not as hazy as I was expecting considering this is a Imperial What IPA

S: At first I noticed a light wheat presence, gluten, light floral and citrus notes peak but become more prevalent as it warms and becomes a bit more oxygenated

T: Wheat lingers providing a heavy sordove sticky, clinging taste on the palate with subtle IBUs and citrus, notes of pine resin. Midway the citrus and pine resin shine and lend a hands to the wheat base. It has a nice subtle booziness on the end with a lingering stickiness, pine bittering hops

M: Medium to big body, filling for a IIPA heavy on the palate.

O: Oddly enough after two pints I wanted more despite how filling this beer was. As it warmed it shined, at 55 degrees it was rather boring but once it hit room temp it became rather intriguing and tasty. I would go back to this beer again.
