On tap for the 2012 Peter Reeves Memorial Sourfest at Churchill’s Pub & Grille in San Marcos, CA.

Pours a clear dark brown with a foamy khaki head that settles to a ring of foam around the edges of the glass. Small streaks of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is slightly sour and tart with a really woody aroma that hides any other smells that may be present. Taste is much the same with smoke, wood, and a sour and bitter finish. This beer has a good level of carbonation with a crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty good beer but it is really woody in both the aroma and smell.

On tap at the barrel house.
From notes on 04AUG12

Ruddy, rusty brown with little foam and a glassy surface, a rim of light tan foam. Smells of lacto-tart, cherries, oak (subdued), vanilla and hints of medicine and grains with muddled leaves. Nice tart flavor up front - moreso than most Bruin's I've had. The oak is complimentary and integral to the flavor profile, rather than a domineering character, which I often dislike in Bruins. Cherries, oak, malts, leather and the slightest alcohol in the flavor. Medium on full bodied with low carb and a slightly slick finish. I like this beer better than most Bruin's, but not nearly as much as other Cascade beers.

On-tap at the barrel room in Portland.

Pours, indeed, bruin, with a touch of red and some haze in the firm, but fluid body. Head forms a solid ring of yellow-white. Not much visible carbonation. Overall, a very solid and very appealing looking beer.

Nose is fabulous. Spicy and acidic but very complex. Some earthy pepper, with oak lending a smoothness but also a contrasting woody sharpness that mingles with a minerally edge and a brusque sweetness like smoky caramel. Impressive stuff.

Light clean entry moves into a crisp, vegetative flavour that leaves some pithy cherry. Back is where the business is though, where a mellow and surprisingly smooth vanilla note comes up to give a velvety tone to the omnipresent acid. Feel is super smooth, with the sense that there's prickles under the smooth veneer.

Very impressed with this one. It's pretty light overall, and the acid is pronounced, but for some reason you just don't notice it when you're drinking it. Great stuff.

Poured from tap into a snifter at the tap room in Portland. Pours a dark amber color with a small head.

Very much in a Flemish red style with aromas of tart raspberries, sour cherries, leather, and some red fruits.

Smooth and silky medium body with a nice acidic tart streak to it. Well balanced flavors of leather, sour cherries, some sherry flavors and a touch of candy.

The candy and sherry flavors threw me off a slight bit. The sourness wasn't too much compared to the sang noir. A real quality oud bruin. Not all too surprising that cascade would do a great job
